I just got £201 for a D40 kit non VR on ebay, they are still a popular beginners camera. I had one for two years and it served me very well. I took some great photos with it and never regretted purchasing it.

Hello and welcome, just bought the D7000 myself but without the lens as I already had a good kit lens from a D80. Loving it so far but not really taken it for the full test drive.

Get a 2nd hand Nikon D40 this is the camera I learnt with and have just upgraded to Nikon D7000. This is a great camera for beginners as it is easy to use and navigate and takes Nikon DX format lenses. Just my opinion though as you can pick one up fairly cheap on ebay.

Just got my D7000 on Saturday, upgraded from my old Nikon D40. Not really had a chance to use it yet other than a few shots around the house to play. I have to say it feels like an excellent piece of kit and I can't wait to go out and do some propper shooting with it.

I was 33 on Thursday, baby on the way and moving house. How grown up, good job I'm a child at heart!

I've got the Nikon ML-L3 remote, never let me down and good basic bit of kit. With 3rd party you always run the risk that it will not work!

Another load of old rubbish bought by Chanel 5! Check out Dead Set a zombie big brother inspired mini serise, much better than the real thing!

I usually send mine off to Aldi as they are cheap and have had good results. I've never had that great results with home printing. I guess if you get a good enough printer then you might.

Many thanks for all the advice, I think I just wanted a 2nd opinion. 1.8D it is and if I get on with it then I can always upgrade. I think the Sigma is a bit out of my price range.
