it's a friend who is selling hence the price, most of you are full frame users and my concern with the 40D is I will lose the out on the wide angle hence thinking about the 17-85 F4.5. I have done weddings in the past, all with kit lenses and never had any issues and may return to the wedding scene.

thanks everyone for the help, i am going to upload a couple of images shortly. In all the photos I take have a dark background because that what is it is as their is nothing but unlit space behind the subjects.

thanks for the reply - going to put you on the spot now .. canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS (or Tamron 17-50 f/2.8) go on please call it - the 70 -200 option is out of the running at the moment

thanks Richard for your reply. The problem i am having is under/over exposure when using flash. The pictures I am shooting have a dark background and i use the flash to light the subjects. If you can spare some more of your time do you think FEC help.

Currently on a Canon 40d i have a Tamron 18 - 250 1:3.5-6.3 LD DI Mark 11. I am not totally happy with the quality of the images but having said that at times the lens performs very well it just appears to lack consistancy especially when using it at the longer end of the scale. I need a lens...
