The supplied flash will do in a pinch, but it lacks power and uses the in camera battery, so avoid if possible. I just got hold of a Godox 685 and it's working really well for me so far.

Over 70's to be asked to self-isolate - how will you pursue your hobby?

The number of confirmed cases always 'lags' the actual number of people who are carrying the virus. Partly because symptoms take some time to show (if you get them at all) and partly because not everyone who has the virus has been tested. So it's a safe bet to say more people have it than are...

Over 70's to be asked to self-isolate - how will you pursue your hobby?

I wouldn't read too much into that. The health authorities aren't testing in many areas (even for some people with symptoms), so we wouldn't necessarily know yet if the 'explosion' had happened. Incubation may be up to 10 days. There are more 'actual' cases than there are 'confirmed' cases, and...

    Radio Programme on Colour

Very interesting stuff, thanks, I enjoy The Life Scientific but mostly miss the live show due to work. I remember a long time ago when I worked with video processing hardware, being told that the CIE definition of colour was "the perceptual result of light with wavelengths between 400nm and...

    Talk to me about filters

Ditto. Plus of course if you take a shot with an ND, you can also take multiple other shots for later processing.

    Tripod heads

We're on the same page, thanks for that. I've decided to hang on until the Birmingham show in March, and see if I can't get hands on a few tripods and heads. The engineer in me likes the idea of having the levelling base as part of the tripod rather than the head, so who knows, I may end up with...

    Tripod heads

Thanks, but to be honest the method he shows is exactly what I need to get away from. I shoot a lot at the beach and on boggy ground, and re-levelling the legs for every shot is tedious. It's inexact, and slow. There has to be a better way!

    Tripod heads

I have an identical tripod to that, but branded Koolehaoda, which has cropped up elsewhere in this thread with levelling heads. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated.

    Tripod heads

That's a proper display of lateral thinking! Thanks, I'll investigate.

    Tripod heads

Maybe I misunderstood. Do you mean you don't use a ballhead at all, just a levelling base with a panoramic clamp on top? I didn't realise that was an option.

    Tripod heads

Thanks, that solves half the problem, but I'd still need to find a levelling base, and keep my existing head as well. I'm in danger of having a tripod that looks like a meccano kit. I was hoping to find a head that does it all without the extra palaver and weight of two extra lumps of metal...

    Tripod heads

Hi All, It might just be me, but many of the tripod heads I've been looking at seem to have fundamental flaws when it comes to implementing panoramic swivels. I'm getting frustrated trying to find a good solution. In my mind, the ideal solution for a head that is suitable for 'general purpose'...

It's free spinning on the 18-55, so marking it probably wouldn't be helpful. I believe it's possible to reverse its direction too, which would doubly mess things up! I don't know about the other XF lenses.

I use the Smallrig L-bracket on my X-T3 and it makes a big difference to the handling. Without the bracket it feels too small, but it works really well for me with the bracket added. Folk who shoot mostly hand held might disagree though, as it can make the bottom of the camera feel a bit sharp...
