    TP Charitable Thread - Sponsorship/Donations

My cousin and best mate will be attempting to climb, walk, run and crawl up every summit over 3000ft (914m) in Cymru within 24 hours. That’s 15 mountains, a distance of about 26 miles (42km) without counting the walks up to and down from the start and finish point, totalling about 11,500ft...

White Balance.. What do you do?

Shoot Raw and leave it set to auto and tweak in Post Processing. I have some presets saved in Lightroom for quicker adjustments.

What size filters for sigma 10-20mm

I use the Cokin P wide angle holder. Not visible at all at 10mm. If I stack it on top of a Hoya Pro Digital CP it is not visible at 12mm

    Tamron 17-50 or Sigma 18-50

I would wait a month or so if you can for the new Sigma 17-50mm OS and see how well that performs and how much it will cost.

    Replacement 50D batteries

I have 2 duracell ones that seem to last a bit longer than the canon one. I think I got them from Amazon, they were far cheaper than the canon battery.

    Canon 85mm f1.2

I would wait for the Sigma 85mm f1.4. It should be released pretty soon and if its anything like the 50mm f1.4 it will be an amazing lens.

    Sigma 50mm f1.4

I have a Sigma 50mm 1.4 and have owned a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the Sigma beats the nifty in every department. On my 50D the Sigma had a bit of trouble focusing when doing ladscapes but a bit of micro adjustment easily sorted it. I have used it in very poor light indoors and the focus is spot on.

    Manfrotto or Giottos Tripod?

I have a Giottos tripod, a friend has a Manfrotto tripod. They are both very similar in build quality and functionality. My Giottos was a fair bit cheaper however.

    Windows 7 - 64 bit or 32 bit?

Go for the 64bit OS. The OS can then utilise over 3gb of RAM. Both Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64bit have had had no problems running 32bit software for me.

Has anyone managed a direct comparison with the EF-S 17-55mm yet? Would be interesting seeing side by side results.
