How many of you make good use of the video capabilities on your dslr?

To be honest I don't use it. When I want video equivalent of a snapshot I reach for my mobile :-)

Canon - dynamic range / banding. Future?

If you need 14 stops of DR you can use dual iso with magic lantern. In 6D canon improved sensor and I have to push deep shadows really hard to nonotice any banding.

    £600...What lens

Unless you are going FF in near future avoid 24-105 and get 15-85. Second hand or from china preferably and start saving for macro or UWA to gain new possibilities. And do not buy 17-85 - it is crap worse then kit lens you have now.

Canon 17-40L + Full Frame = Disappointing Results

    ^This. 16-35f4L wipes the floor with 17-40 and even 16-35 2.8.

Sigma 10-22mm F4-5.6 or Canon Efs 10-22mm F3.5-4.5, which one should i get?

I have canon and love it so much that I can't part with it even if I upgraded to 6D. I will have a hard time to replace it. New 16-35 looks great but so much money... You can get Canon 10-22 for not much more then 300 on e-bay.

    Nikon D700 vs D7000

Do note let mpx race full you. Lots of billboards were printed from 8 mpx 20D and looked good. Remember that bigger picture is usually viewed from farer distance. I don't have nikon but heard only good thing about d700. Having crop and FF I would choose FF always except for reach.

Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 - best photo accessory for the money!

Swirly bokeh, can't remember the brand but there is an old manual macro with similar OOF rendering.

The what gear do i take battle?

Mostly 6D, 24-105 f4, and 85 1.4 or 100 macro, sometimes 70-300IS, but i do not like this lens, really I need to replace it with something longer and sharper for wildlife. Sometimes light tripod and a few filters.

    Metering when taking portraits

Usually i use evaluative. I am used to this mode and most of the time I can predict how much I need to dial and it's biased towards active focusing point. I want to learn to use spot, but unfortunately my camera does not offer AF point spot metering (greedy canon leaves this for 1D series...
