    Non UK Madagascar

Thanks for advice and reassurance. We're leaving via Paris mid late August too. We'll be relying on public transport or driven but based at Antasibe for a month. Then undecided at the moment but might go for a couple of internal flights. Will be staying at guest house but no idea on security...

    Non UK Madagascar

Just wanting to resurrect this post - I'm in a similar situation later this year. I'll be going to Antasibe for 4 weeks followed by a week or two of touring. I'm signed up (along with the Boss and 19yr old son) for voluntary work in Antasibe Park. Evenings and weekends free to roam. Then I'm...

    Gitzo replacement

Agreed, Sirui well worth looking at. Quality appears spot on. not the cheapest, .. Mine came with tools to tighten up joints which worked loose after first few uses. Very pleased overall

    Removing Nikon 28-70 lens mount

I replaced my 18 to 105mm mount without any problem. Watched the youtube How to replace Bayonet mount on Nikkor 18-105 lens - YouTube "How to replace Bayonet mount on Nikkor 18-105 lens - YouTube" I watched the video a few times before and during. Quite simple and very satisfying.

    Nikkor 200-500?

I'm using the D750 and am happy up to 12800. I guess IQ better and easier DoF at F8? Very good point w.r.t weight, I use blackrapid (excellent accessory) or no strap. Heaviest lens I have to date is the 70-200 at just over 1.4kg, and I notice this after a day. The 500-200 is 2.3kg (with...

    Nikkor 200-500?

Thanks for that. Would you think that the 1/2 stop difference at full reach, plus the VR of the Nikon is a major factor. I'm looking at some low light photography (dusk/dawn in Finland) as well as high shutter speeds for sports..

    Nikkor 200-500?

Hope this is relevant thread.... Not quite decided on buying Nikon 200-500 or Sigma 150-600 sport. Wildlife photography, but also sailing (so damp conditions at times). Have signed up for Bear photography in Finland. Any experience with either lens. Have 70-200 2.8, but dont want loss of IQ or...

Nikon D750 or Canon 5D Mk III?

    Sling strap + tripod mount

I definitely prefer 70-200 Nikon hung off tripod collar - not camera. Point to note on mine though is the lens AF & VR switches can be moved when walking if lens rubs on hip. Adjust/turn collar position to avoid this. Also - don't trust the carabina. My safety lock unscrewed allowing camera and...

    Safety on a camera sling

I've used the BR strap for a couple of years and never had an issue. Always conscious of possibility of unscrewing, so check it is tight every so often. It always is - even after a 10th mile hike. I've had more issues with the standard issue NIKON strap.

    D90 Owners Thread - Anything D90 related

Nikon's 70-200 f2.8 MUST be on the list. Faultless. (note that I have the VRI version which is fine on the DX format of D90). I use this lens more than any. A pleasure to use. Don't worry about the cost - look after it and you can sell it for what you paid for it - but you won't sell it!
