I definitely prefer 70-200 Nikon hung off tripod collar - not camera. Point to note on mine though is the lens AF & VR switches can be moved when walking if lens rubs on hip. Adjust/turn collar position to avoid this. Also - don't trust the carabina. My safety lock unscrewed allowing camera and...

I've used the BR strap for a couple of years and never had an issue. Always conscious of possibility of unscrewing, so check it is tight every so often. It always is - even after a 10th mile hike. I've had more issues with the standard issue NIKON strap.

Nikon's 70-200 f2.8 MUST be on the list. Faultless. (note that I have the VRI version which is fine on the DX format of D90). I use this lens more than any. A pleasure to use. Don't worry about the cost - look after it and you can sell it for what you paid for it - but you won't sell it!
