Aye, I'm going to agree with the others - check your horizons.
Also, for me it's just too overprocessed and underexposed in most places for my personal tastes :)
I went to Waddington last year for the first time. Was a good day out. Could comfortably get decent shots with the 7D and 100-400 combo.
Was quite pleased with this one :)

I'm pretty much always at the wide end of my 17-40 when out doing star stuff.
The more you do it, the more you just instinctively know what settings to use when you attempt it. I went out the other day to do a timelapse and guessed at 20 seconds, f/4, ISO 800...
From when I used to read them, Practical Photography was more technique based, while Digital Photo was more about the Photoshopping / Post Processing aspect. The magazines compliment each other.
Going back a few years now, so things may have changed. :)
