    Canon 6 D spec

I do think it's more pertinent when a new camera is released to compare non-UK to non UK and UK to UK... It's the differential that matters. I'm not sure someone who is uncomfortable with buying grey is going to easily change their view. It does seem to be a marmite thing. Unless you are...

Plenty of copies on eBay... around the £20 mark.

    Canon 1DX release

Well, my comment was merely a flippant one, and I was meaning upgrade compared to the D3s...

    Canon 1DX release

I don't think the Canon will move Nikon D3s users to Canon, but they might be a lot more tempted to upgrade if the Nikon D4s (if that's what's coming) had those specs.

    Canon 1DX release

To be fair, given that the 1D X sensor is presumably using the very latest Canon sensor technology, and uses larger photo-sites than the outgoing 1D4, I'd be more surprised if the noise claims were not true. I can't help feeling that if the 1D X was a Nikon D4s, everyone would think yep, job...

To quote the Canon press release.... ;)

    Canon 1DX release

Posted this elsewhere, but thought I'd add it here.. What I did was work out the number of pixels per mm for various Canon models using the sensor size specs on the Canon site. Then you can calculate what the effective resolution is for moving between formats. So, for example the 1DX...

    Canon 1DX release

It does seem at first sight that Canon seem to have completely forgotten about what must be a failry lucrative customer segment in birders. I see a LOT of high end Canon gear used for it. The unexpectedly low MP count, loss of APS-H and now f/8 focus all seems to be adding up to a perfect...

    7D noise

I suspect he's worried as Adobe have always said to see the effects of sharpening in LR correctly, you should view at 100%. And at 100%, the default effect on a 7D file is quite worrying, even at ISO200. And we all know you need to sharpen a RAW file.

    7D noise

You can get quite close to DPP in LR/ACR, they key is the sharpening. By default the Adobe settings just don't suit the 7D. And seeing as the conversion algorithms are completely different, whilst DPP may appear to have no NR, that's not to say that Canon don't compensate at all for the...

    7D noise

Lightroom is a little over-aggressive on the default sharpening sometimes. I find that moving the masking quite significantly to the right is required. If you hold down the alt key while you move the slider you can see the effect and judge where to stop. LR also doesn't apply ANY noise...

Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L USM Lens with 2x Extender.

The older 70-200 f/2.8's and a 2x TC are not known for being a great combination if you are after ultimate sharpness. I think the Q you need to ask yourself is whether you need 400mm that often, or whether your primary use of the lens will be without an extender on it. At 400mm, a...

    20D V 40D

No, they work as cross type from f/5.6. The centre AF point has extra sensitivity at f/2.8 or faster. I have a Sigma 12-24 that really struggled on a 20D to lock on to stuff on outer AF points. It was significantly better on the 40D and is not a fast lens.

    50mm 1.8 Vs 1.4

Don't forget that the Canon 1.4 does not have their (better) ring USM, it has the cheaper not so quick or quiet Micro Motor USM as deployed on the cheaper 70-300 telephotos etc. However, quite frankly you'd have to buy a cheap Tamron to get slower AF than the 1.8. Sigma's HSM focus is...
