Mine's back with Canon now. CPS rep told me it was an issue with oil in the mirror mechanism. But NOT the one I had told him I'd experienced (loads of spattered oil on the sensor) but it is apparently a problem with too LITTLE oil. If that's the case, I guess it could dry up and seize after a while.

Thanks very much Bob. One stop isn't as extreme as I thought, but maybe I too will wait until I get the 2nd 1DX body to use on the TS-E lenses!

I know we've touched on this topic before, but my sensor has really picked up a load of dust/grease/oil lately. FoCal is showing it having 400 spots at small apertures. I can only assume this is mirror oil being flicked, but I've tried to clean it with rocket blower, but that makes not a scrap...

Depends which birds, I guess. I'm trying to catch swallows at the moment with a 400mm f5.6 and am having great difficulty. 1/1000 isn't fast enough, but I'm finding 1/4000 is the speed. F5.6 - f8. These are "random" swallows I'm talking about, not pre-planning to shoot where they are nesting...

60 days - 2 months - isn't too long to wait to get your hands on a new 1DX is it?? I have to sell my existing gear to buy it through here, which is frustrating! But hey, patience is a virtue and you never know - the price may come down in the meantime! I can see the logic of having to wait...

Anyone know of a good price or dealer for the 1DX in the US, because if that's the case, I'll wait a month or two until I'm next over there? I see ebay and amazon have it regularly at $6,799 which equates to UK approx £4,250

But it does irritate me that I used to spend 6 months in the US and 6 months in the UK (or IOM) and if I bought a 1DX in the US, which makes perfect sense - I've got to buy it somewhere - then why on earth would Canon refuse to honour a warranty issue whilst I was in the UK? Or vice versa?

Not me either ... Isle of Man isn't part of the UK. Or the EU for that matter. Or Great Britain. Weird but lovely little place, spoiled only by UK weather!
