    5d mk1 - lens recommendation

I've found that to be one of the drawbacks of the 5D; the focus accuracy. I often find myself needing to centre-focus and then recompose to get accurate focus.

Canon 5D MK I 'classic' - owners thread

I know what you mean - I was looking and looking (both at 5Ds for sale, and at my bank balance) and in the end bought one without thinking! Never going back to cropped sensor - that viewfinder is just too good and the IQ is so much better than the 350D I upgraded from. Too bad my EF-S...

    My mirror just fell off!

When I bought my 5D second hand I enquired as to whether the mod was just for cameras which had had the mirror fall off, or whether it could be done before it happened. Colchester Cameras were the only ones who would do the mod first as a preventative measure, all the others said that the...

    5d mk1 - lens recommendation

Just to finish off this thread - bought a used 28-135 and am loving it. The resolving power of this lens on a full frame camera is amazing!

    5d mk1 - lens recommendation

Thanks for all your help guys. I dont think I can justify spending that much on L lenses though at the moment so will have a play with the 28-135. Thanks, Mike

Canon 17-85 USM IS... Any good?

I have one of the 17-85 and it's a cracking lens, much better than the 18-55 that comes bundled, but again you get what you pay for and for double the money the 15-85 is better! It all depends how much you want to spend. For the money, I'd go for the 17-85 any day (and I did!). The IS and the...

In the same way that Canon bundled the 28-135 with the 40D? ;)

    5d mk1 - lens recommendation

Thanks for all the replies guys, it's great information. I'm going to look into the 28-135 and the 28-105 (since reasonably close family own both of those) and see how they fare.

    5d mk1 - lens recommendation

Thanks for the tips, but like I said I've never used anything that wide before. Is there a way I can try lenses like that out before I buy? As an aside, does anyone have a 28-135 that they can comment on? Thanks, Mike

    5d mk1 - lens recommendation

I've recently acquired a Canon 5D used and unfortunately can no longer use my EF-S lens, the 17-85mm. I thought this gave good IQ and range on my old 350D. I bought a nifty fifty to give me something wider than the Tamron 70-300 VC I also have and I'm impressed with how sharp it is. I enjoy...
