Definately the hoya, there's always a reason for the difference in price. Not tried a step up ring, but i don't see why it shouldn't work. it'll be cheaper than buying lots of different sized polarisers. :D

Another vote for the 24-105 as it's light with excellent image quality. It's not very wide though on a crop sensor, which is why i always keep my wide angle in the bag just in case.

Interesting thread this. I think the real issue is over the word "professional". I've worked in IT for over 20 years and even though i don't have any recognised qualifications I still regard myself as a professional, as this is my "profession", as in this is what brings the money in each...

I wouldn't recommend using this on a sensor to be honest. I always find a rocket blower clears most of the crud and the occasional wipe with a swab and eclipse cleaning fluid for the stubborn ones.

One of the first starting points would be to get yourself some decent books on the basics of photography. If you do a search on here there are plenty of threads with recommended books.

I was at a wedding over christmas and took some video of the night do with the wifes new canon IXUS 950 camera, I have to say the quality is better than i expected and a lot better than my old DV camera. I doubt any screengrabs will be good enough for print, certainly not a 30x20.
