I have to say that after trying my mates 500 f4 vr on a Wimberley/monopod I couldnt disagree more ..... but as is with everything in life, it all comes down to personal taste :)
Ball heads and heavy telephoto lenses dont really work well together. The only thing Id put in between a 400 2.8 and a monopod is a heavy duty tilt or gimbal head. I tried the Really Right Stuff head and its very good, but way too expensive for what it is so it went back. The Custom Brackets...
By radial clamp do you mean the lens collar?
I use it set up for wildlife as follows
Nikon D300 + 70-200 2.8 VR + 1.7 TC mounted to the head via a Wimberley P20 plate. The lock on the head is off and the friction control set to the desired amount. Lens collar can then be used to lock the...
I tried the Nikon 1.4, 1.7 and 2x mk II & III with my 70-200 2.8 vr. In the end I settled on the 1.7. The 1.4 has little effect on IQ but then it doesnt add much to the lenses reach either. The 2x mk II isnt great with the mk III a bit better (this one shines on primes). The 1.7 gives the best...
This is what you need

WEX sell them for £150 and you can check out my glowing review there as well.
Really is a great and tough bit of kit! Can take the weight of the biggest lenses.
Get yourself a Wimberley plate to mount to the lens foot...
Im saying that if both cameras have the same resolution (12.5mp) then to get a picture on FX that looks the same as DX you need to crop it. This means you loose some of those megapixels. So the final FX image will have half the amount of megapixels as the DX image. This means that should you...
All my Sandisk Extream CF cards come via Amazon/Amazon market place and all are 100% genuine.
I find the trick is to look at seller feedback and dont buy the cheapest ones.
Amazon doesnt allow fake goods to be traded on its market place, so if you do end up with a duff contact them and they...
From my understanding (please correct me if Im wrong :))
Wheather its DX or FX, focal length remains the same.
An FX D700 has a resolution of 12.5MP as does the DX D300
The difference is that the sensor on the DX is 1.5x smaller than on the FX. So when both images are viewed at the same...
Im sticking it out to see if they update my D300 (probably in vein though), but if in a years time there's still no joy Ill go for a D700 as all my kit (grip, batterys) will still be good to use. Plus its an amazing camera.
If Im feeling flush though, I may push for a D3s :).
Really dont like...

I use the Nikkor 105mm VR and think its the business! Use it for my insect and reptile shots but it also makes a good portrait lens. MPB has a few at good prices.
The shorter focal lengths (40mm,60mm) are good but the working distance is so small it can be a real struggle to achieve good...
Iv started using one and it doesnt seem to effect them. At some distance in day light the flash is hardly noticable. If anything it seems that pointing a big black/white lens at them is what makes them nervous.
Yea Iv been on there ALOT ha ha.
Think Im settled on the S90 and will decide on either the Canon or Ikelite housing when I know how much I have to play with.
The wide angle lens looks out of my price range, even s/h.
Are there any good budget makes I should look out for that will fit the...
