Are you intending to use it on a full or crop frame? Om my 5d mk2 it's brilliant for portraits, but then so is my 100mm macro, 70-200 zoom...... It often depends upon the circumstances (available space and light) and the subject but you won't go far wrong with the 85 in my humble opinion.
Wow, 'they all do that sir' never seemed so appropriate! I think this post has saved me the cost of a service as in all other respects it's great & my 'standard' lens on my 5DC and 5 MK2.
I have a canon lens as title and when I hold the camera at a downward angle or have it on the strap around my neck, the lens creeps really easily. Is this normal or is it becoming 'loose'? It is about 6/7 years old and hasn't been serviced in the 4 years I've had it so is it time for a...
The key light 580EX was in a soft-box on the left and the reflector on the right each about 2 feet from subject. I was trying to blow out the rear wall to make it look like it was taken against a studio white backdrop. Practice, practice;)
I am very new to strobe lighting off camera and would value any advice regarding head shots with my lighting setup. I dragged Sarah in from the garden so don't need telling about composition or the state of the 'models' hair/makeup:). This test shot was taken using a 580EXii in a 450 x 450 soft...
I carry it in my ski jacket when on the piste:) and even when I lug my dslr kit around it is still there in the background in case I need a quick shot or just want to venture out in lightweight mode. I often find I use it to catch snapshots of friends/family by having it with me at all times and...

Can I ask what settings you used to get that nice dark high contrast sky? I have recently bought Silver FX pro, shoot in RAW and used my X100 in mono mode with red filter but still don't seem to get that effect.
My neighbor has just bought a 6d with kit lens and is delighted. His only hitch was when he missed the delivery and wanted to change the re-delivery to his office address. They wouldn't budge as the card was registered to his home address and he had to stay at home to take delivery. I think...

I would recommend joining the National Trust for entry to places (like Winkworth). Not only are they a great day out if you like history/beautiful houses/gardens, they are very photogenic and some (like Uppark on May 13th) do organized photography events. There are plenty near you and If...
I couldn't find a way to do it with my current kit but at least I now know I am not missing a simple trick. I suppose I could buy a suitable 3rd party strobe which will work with the X100. Any recommendations from other Fuji users?
I am sure in some way or other this has probably been asked before, but..
I was watching one of the Digitalrev challenges on Youtube where a pro is given a cheap camera and set a number of challenges with it. In the one which interested me the 'Pro' Zak Arias was using a nondescript camera...
Very easy to use, so far it seems to be drying to the same matt finish as the body I'll see how it dries fully and report again. Only problem is I managed to order two on Amazon and I think one could repaint several whole bodies!!
