    Macro

Its really hit and miss, I am another Raynox user, only the DCR-250 on a 70-300 zoom with a cheapo flash diffuser for the on board flash. Just wander around the garden and something is willing to pose for you, eventually :) Similar creature but closer up, lens about three inches from her nose...

    Should i buy the 100-400 L or the 70-300 L canon lens?

Thanks for posting the pic Ben, I am going through the same process you did ATM and it has helped a lot :)

    Canon 70-200mm L f4 IS or f2.8 none IS

A dilemma indeed, I like the thought of having more light but does this compensate for the lack of IS on the 2.8? I really cannot justify the mkII 2.8 which has IS unless you can convince me otherwise ;) Probably 50/50 between tripod and handheld use for wildlife and hopefully aircraft and...

    Flickr pitfalls?

Cheers for that Rory, just checked my photo directory and its 46GB, maybe time for a spring clean, so that would mean having to pay yet another monthly fee, It would be cheaper for me to rent a domain and 250gb of server space and just FTP it all up.

So what was your first slr or dslr?

Pentax ME super, second hand in 1985, never really knew how to get the best out of it, couldn't afford the developing and printing costs to experiment so every picture taken had to mean something, but I always used the cheapo send off in the post developing and printing companies who sent you...

    Flickr pitfalls?

Cheers Tim, I was considering that too for a back up, not still quite sure on the cloud/online storage ethos yet :) I have several backups here at home which are automatic but backups stored elsewhere are a case of when I remember.

    Monitor vs tv advice please!!

Matt, I am not too experienced in DSLR but I have a few years under my belt with computers, if your TV will allow full HD1080 from your computer via an HDMI cable you will be getting 1920x1080 which will look very good on a 23 inch IPS monitor. But stretch that out to 40-42 inch screen and the...

    Flickr pitfalls?

I am not overly concerned about images being stolen, I was really wondering if it was possible to protect it in some way I had not found out about, in fact if anyone used one of my images I would not only be surprised but flattered too :D I guess the bottom line is, as with any web based thing...

    Flickr pitfalls?

Sage advice, thanks. Yep, but a certain amount of healthy paranoia with the net is good ;) Thanks Alastair, I usually post 1024 on the long side on other forums I visit/run tbh, but that is food for thought.

    Flickr pitfalls?

Hi, I have just set up a flickr account, not that I will ever produce anything fantastic, but you never know, how does one go about protecting your images? Also any tips for organising images on the account? What size to upload? Any pitfalls a new user should be aware of Do's and Don'ts sort...

    good "getting the basics" Book

Thanks for pointing out understanding exposure the book, ordered it and its really very good, any technical book my mind tends to wander, but not this one. Great example photos and straight forward explanations. Oh and make sure its the third edition as it has been updated to 2010 standard of...

    Scanning 35mm

Thanks for the link, it got corrupted but I found the thread :) will probably be scanning whilst monitoring my astro camera and reading forums and making the wife tea ;) Good to get the view of someone who has used it, maybe I need to dig a bit deeper but I read a few bits indicating the...

    Scanning 35mm

Thanks for the replies so far :) I realise its a long job and I have the time, I spend more time messing on the computer than watching the TV and have recently retired (although the DIY and other house jobs seem to eat into my life more and more.) Also I won't want every single negative...

    Scanning 35mm

Hi All, New around here so please be gentle, I see there are lots of threads on scanners and I am going round and round in circles reading them all. First of I am looking to scan a few thousand 35mm negatives and slides, all are family photographs and the intention is to digitise them for...
