    DOF advise when shooting people

Ok. found it. In online calculator circle of confusion parameter used as 0.03mm. For 5Dmk2. Or any full size 21mpx we have 36mm on 5616 pixels. That is 0.006mm. 5 times less. http://www.dofmaster.com/equations.html http://www.dofmaster.com/digital_coc.html In wiki:

    DOF advise when shooting people

Subscribing to this topic. Any online tool saying me that 85mm on 1.2 gives you 4cm DOF at 2meters and 6cm on 2.0. I was shooting portraits yesterday. I can hardly keep eyes in focus on 2.0-2.8. DoF is much less then 4cm, maybe only 4mm? so we need another calculator for portraits. I found that...

    How to get started?

I recommend to get not flash, but 50mm 1.4 or 1.8. On crop sensor it will be about 85 portrait focal length, amazing for portraits. For example canon have 1.2 for crazy money, and then 1.4 for reasonable 300-400 new, and then 1.8 that is still good to start with. Same with nikon, i guess they...

    Composition

I remember one film wedding photographer was joking something like: Digital photography is just great, you can shoot, watch and immediately... delete. For advanced digital photographers there is even button "delete all" without watching it :)

    what shall i do...course or 1-2-1

If you want to progress quicker i suggest you need maybe not course itself, but club there you can bring your pictures and discuss it with interested in photography people. Find a club in your city, join some lectures. Preferably if it will be leaded by oldschool photographers who still sometime...

    Focal lengths clarified

Look at it as definition of angle of view. Not zoom. more zoom mean less angle of view. focal length is somewhat if you have just simple lens of single glass, not group of them as we have in modern lens. Then you need to put it 500mm apart of paper/sensor to get a picture. If you use group...

Dilema on lenses for Canon 550D

Was in same thoughts 4 years ago. Finally sold EF-s and went with 5D and 28-105mm 3.5-4.5. Much cheaper then cover same range by 17-40 + something else. Never regret.

    Why is a 17 - 55 so much more expensive than an 18 - 55??

17-55 IS USM is best you can get as standard lens for cropped sensor. It is equivalent to somewhat 24-70 2.8L for 5D. Problem is that once you got 17-55 2.8 it will be more difficult to upgrade to 5D later on. By the way 17-55 has USM autofocus that is faster and coupled with f/2.8 work much...

FF 'L' lens on a crop body

How could you forget about Magnificent Red Ring? LOL Go for L lenses, it will be always good investment. And they perfectly work on crop. If you use crop camera you cant have standard zoom by using any of EF zoom lens. Because you end up by bringing 2 lens all the time. If you buy lot of...

    What is 'the' major difference?

lens will contribute. f/2.8 will give better autofocus result then shooting unpredictably moving objects like kids or animals. USM lens will aim much faster then non USM. Difference is really small, but with kids this milliseconds make difference. Try 85mm 1.8, or killing for budget 85mm 1.2 ;)...

    What is 'the' major difference?

Football day was outdoor. Lot of light, autofocus job is much easier (faster and more precise). More space between object and background give you feeling of space and volume. Not same as then you shoot your children at home. Make you camera's job easier :) Bring children out on the sunshine...
