lens will contribute. f/2.8 will give better autofocus result then shooting unpredictably moving objects like kids or animals. USM lens will aim much faster then non USM. Difference is really small, but with kids this milliseconds make difference. Try 85mm 1.8, or killing for budget 85mm 1.2 ;)...
