I have the 35 and 50 as well and I have uses for both but to be honest I am a little disappointed with the focus speed on the 35 compared with the 50, the screw focus on my D80 with the 35 is definitely faster. I'm wondering now wether I should have got the 35 f2?

A Car is slightly different to a Camera in that servicing is a necessary evil for safety reasons more than anything. It also helps a bit with resale, but to be honest I don't think either applies to a camera. So yes, I do have the car serviced :)

I wouldn't send it in unless there was a specific problem that required attention. Why run the risk of introducing a fault if it all works fine?
