You came dangerously close to a good explanation of the inverse square law there! :D I use that quite a lot. It's surprising how even on a bright day you can get a dark background if you use a narrow aperture and rely on flash to illuminate the subject only and keep the background as far away as...
And you still want to go? ;) I suppose the advantage with the beggars, unlike the muggers and pickpockets, is that they will ask if they can take your camera?
I have a Panasonic GX7 (there's a GX8 now). For a 4/3 camera it's very good quality and I love it, but they are not cheap - especially...
It's a normal shot. No special lens or effect. Our political class has completely lost the plot and the whole political edifice is collapsing in on itself naturally.
I am not surprised by this at all. Many large forums and social media platforms are there for profit of the owners and not for our edutainment. So ultimately they will want to tidy up any aspects of their site that they think is not assisting that aim.
Put it in RAW edit and use the correction tool on the right panel. Can't remember what it's called off hand, but it enables you to adjust various distortion factors. Think it's also in main Photoshop menu.

Thanks, Owen, that is very interesting. I tried using one of those small flash softboxes as you show. They too are good, but the great thing about the Flashbender is its flexibility (literally). For my shot the mid-day sun was very bright overhead, and I actually positioned the FB so that is...
I recently bought a Rogue Flashbender, which I find excellent for macro and closeup. I tend to want a lot of DOF and I use an off-camera flash in manual mode fitted with the Flashbender.

The diffuser gives a very soft light. In this shot taken a few days...
I rarely take my Canon 5DM2 out of the house. My wife got fed up with carting it around for me (that might have been a joke). For a walk-about camera I use a Panasonic G3 which is excellent. It just feels so good to use, and I much prefer using it to the 5D - although the 5D does take better...
