The 450D would be fine, you could get a canon flashgun with E-TTL so that it can be automatically exposed correctly, or you could just get a 2nd hand flashgun from ebay. make sure that you can adjust the power. you can always practice with the flash before you go to the nightclubs, it will be...

The canon 50mm 1.8 will focus at around arms length, so you should be able to get a decent close-up with it
