    Legal siituation: PLEASE DELETE

Your response was very helpful Annie and I understand all you were trying to say was insurance can and will pay out even if the party claiming was in the wrong.

But was that money claimed from your car insurer or you personally?

    Legal siituation: PLEASE DELETE

Indeed, this is why I want to speak to the police about the case myself. The letter from the solicitor is accusing me of driving without due care and attention, so I want to check with the police if I am being charged for that offence (this was 6 weeks ago remember, and I have heard nothing...

If I have to pay anything (ie. an insurance excess) then I certainly will get annoyed. This "where there's blame there's a claim" ******** like this makes me glad I'm leaving the UK. We'll see what happens.

Noted. Seems the best plan. Good to know. Granted I didn't see her at all but I very much doubt she had begun crossing the road before I began my turn, given that this is a pretty wide road with centre-islands and lots of parked cars obscuring views meaning you have to pull out slowly and be...

I was planning on just acknowledging receipt of the letter and saying that she won't be getting any money: it was an accident and she should accept that. My dad said he'll draft something up for me to word it strongly but politely, I think I'd be too blunt. Will ask the police's advice...

    External backup solutions

...but the added bonus of being able to separate the mirrored copies in case of theft/fire. Keep one in your car.

    External backup solutions

Stick them in enclosures then. Do your backups overnight if you don't want to be doing other stuff at the same time. Unless your transferring 100GB every time you sync, speed shouldn't really be an issue.

    External backup solutions

Just get two external 1TB USB drives (Toshiba StorE Art 3 is about £95 on Amazon just now, main powered ones would be cheaper) and be dilgent with your backup routine. Works for me.

    Good horror films...

Some of these are pretty extreme (especially some of the Japanese ones and most of the French) but since you mentioned "HUMAN TORTURE IS FINE"... If you really want extreme then Martyrs is my pick of the bunch - check it out before Hollywood butchers it next year. Spanish: [Rec] (2007) The...

Waterproofing - You not the camera!

I second Arc'teryx. Some of the best stuff out there just now, expensive but worth it. If you're not going to be moving around much then just get a long Helly Hansen PVC fishing jacket for about £40. It'll last a lifetime and 100% waterproof unlike any Gore-Tex/etc.

    Decent mouse for Macbook editing

Microsoft's models are the most comfortable to use by a long way, and I've tried a lot of different brands. I use this old one that seems out of production (I think I paid £20-ish on eBay). this looks like the replacement one, with a similar size & shape.
