    Demo-Lition Student Protest - Policing

Hi all, I am a student, and will be taking photographs at the protest on Wednesday in London. I just have a few questions about the law, should I fall out with the police - I don't plan to, but I've heard many 'horror stories': a) Am I actually doing anything wrong by photographing police...

Can I have two web addresses pointing to the same site?

You make a good point. *gives Matt a cookie* :)

Can I make the background bigger

Image -> Resize -> Canvas Size Anchor it to the bottom if you want it to add space to the top, or anchor it to the top if you want space on the bottom. If you want space all around, leave it anchored in the middle. I think that's what your after?

    Canon zoom lens advice needed

The 50mm f/1.8 is cheap (£80-100), very sharp, and very small. All big plusses for street photography. If you're not so worried about size and want a zoom lens, the Sigma 10-20mm falls into your budget as a wide angle lens - and boy is it wide! (I think mine was £380 new at Castle Cameras in...

Can I have two web addresses pointing to the same site?

Just to clarify for OP: If you use a redirect, when your customer goes to abc.net they will be sent to abc.com instead. If you park a domain, when your customer goes to abc.net they will stay at abc.net, but it will have the same content as abc.com. It just depends which outcome is preferable...

Can I have two web addresses pointing to the same site?

Yes, you can park your old domain on top of your new one, or indeed, the new one on top of the old one. That way, both domains will do exactly the same thing. You should ask for webhost about this. Alternatively, your webhost control panel might have an option to do this. If you bought the...

    Help choosing 7d, 550d or 50d?

You really can't compare the 550D to the 7D... As said previously, you really don't need Sport mode. You could just put it in shutter priority and use a suitably fast shutter speed for whatever sport you're shooting. I haven't really explored the custom functions, but on my 7D the control dial...

Lens filters..talk me through them please

I personally use the Hoya Pro-1 filters. UV doesn't really affect digital sensors, I'm told, so there's no point in using the filters for that. I've done comparisons with and without, and haven't noticed a difference in image quality. I'm told the Pro-1 are really good compared to the cheaper...

    Photographing with glasses

I think it depends on the camera too. When I was shooting on my 450D (low end Canon), I found it slightly difficult with my glasses on. However, it's no problem at all with my new 7D (high end canon). So some eyepieces are designed better than others I guess.

    I pad costs

I saw a funny video by the BBC of a reporter trying to do it with scissors, failing horribly and recommending that other people don't do it because it probably doesn't work anyway. Well, if you don't wield scissors like an absolute moron and try being sensible and using a craft knife instead...

    I pad costs

Here in the UK, networks have special iPad tariffs - for example, O2 charge £10/month for a 1 gigabyte allowance (that's not a fixed term contract, so you can cancel it with 30 days notice). O2 also include unlimited WiFi usage on any of their OpenZone networks, which are fairly extensive (I...

I'd be very flattered if this happened to me.

    Canon 7D

If you do wildlife that moves, the AF system on the 7D is amazing. It's great for sports too. Downsides? All I can think of is the hideously expensive battery - they cost about £60 each, making for expensive spares. The battery for the 7D is chipped, which means that if you use a third party...

If you have not done it GO AND BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS NOW!

With Windows XP and Windows 7, if you install Windows to the same partition that it's already installed on (without reformatting!), it moves all your files into a folder called windows.old on the hard drive.

Which Mobile Network (thinking for iPhone 4?)

I can't comment on Huddersfield, but I think O2 have the best coverage overall in the country - although they're all fairly good. I'd imagine in a large city you wouldn't have much trouble. It's worth bearing in mind that with T-Mobile, if you run a coverage check when you register a contract...
