Directing Subjects - How do you direct & stay confident

if you've never directed before it's going to be a disaster. Most people expect to be told what to do, simply because they have no idea. Directing takes experience, lots of it, and skill.

Beginner Fisheye lens on the cheap. Help!

Hmm, what is your idea of cheap? You're not going to find any fish eye lens for less than $150-200, even the manual ones.

    Off Camera Flash Question

If I'm just standing a few feet away then it should be more than enough. Even the pop up flash is more than enough in that situation. At the moment I don't have any working triggers, and I don't have a sync cord, so I've held off on the purchase. Not to mention I also have no one to...

    Off Camera Flash Question

Tutorials on youtube will not cover the technique I'm talking about. If they do it's buried among all those videos somewhere. What is your suggestion for how far away the flash should generally be from the camera? Fairly powerful for it's size I think.

    Off Camera Flash Question

I believe the flash has a wide angle diffuser built in, but that's it. I recently bought a used canon 550ex, which weighs about 18 ounces with batteries, and if I can't bounce I'm uncertain what purpose a flash like this serves at an event. This is what the flash looks like...

    Off Camera Flash Question

I've heard many extol the virtues of off camera flash, but this mostly pertains to studio work. Does this also apply to just holding the flash away from your body as well? I have started taking portraits at events, but only with a flash mounted on my hotshoe. Will a small, bare, manual flash...

    Photographer lost our wedding photos

Hard drives don't typically just "break." There'll be warning signs before this happens. Many times a hard drive will become corrupted and will appear broken since you can't even log into windows with it or slave it. In these situations the data is easily retrievable with data recovery software.

Are all DSLR kit lens that bad?

On the contrary many kit lenses are fairly good, just not top notch. It's typically when you venture into the 70-300mm kits that quality begins to more uniformly bad among kit lenses.

    50mm Headshots

From the comparison example I saw, there is clearly a case of barrelling when you use a 50mm on a FF as opposed to an 85mm.

    50mm Headshots

I think distortion only appears when you use a 50mm on a full frame sensor, and I think that is where the complaints are coming from. Of course, when someone complains they won't always point out what the sensor size of their camera is, so this of course causes a lot of confusion.
