Copying a 'card onto HD without PC >?

I think it was probably designed for almost exactly someone with your requirements. Over at Nikonians there were several users and I never heard a bad word about it. It should be perfect for you, hope it works out that way.

Aye, They need to be very careful. An improved EM-5 wouldn't be presumably that far off the EM-1 and would be a fair bit cheaper...

Going to the Isle of Wight this weekend...

+1 for Carisbrooke, a very moody and interesting castle with excellent views. There's a decent zoo as well if memory serves.

As I understand it the EM-1 is not a replacement for the EM-5 and a replacement for the latter could come quite quickly. Not that this really explains this very low price, one that could tempt new buyers away from the EM-1.

    Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Comparison between the EM-1 and a D600 here My immediate impression of many of the initial 'hands-on' reviews is that many of the writers have clearly been in an Olympus environment for their first experiences. Re the price, it appears that the camera plus 12-40 kits offers a fair...

That's the one I had! Still tucked away somewhere. Like I said, I stopped using it because I wanted better viewing and sorting capability, but for pure fast field storage it was excellent. The devices Flightphoto has posted seem very similar.

Specifically device and not into a cloud? Few years ago I had a little black box - forget the name but the company went bust I think - that was little more than a hard drive with a screen and slots for various types of card. Very effective back-up but not very good for viewing and sorting the...

    Your photography pet hates

Yeah pretty well :) On a serious note, I was on a safari a fortnight ago and that really brought them out. The guy shooting a family of elephants two hundred yards away in bright sunlight using his flash (DSLR which makes it worse). People using ipads, just looks daft. A couple taking turns...

    Your photography pet hates

    1. People with cheaper, more entry-level kit than me. Clear wannabes who dilute the photography pool and should stick to camera phones. 2. People with more expensive, better kit than me. Spoilt rich kids making up for their lack of photography skill by flashing their wallets.

    Crop factor confusion

Yes abolsutely, and I think that's what causes a lot of confusion. A FF camera with a higher pixel count won't have less 'reach' than a lower pixel DX camera. With so many combinations of sensor size, pixel count and lens size any generalisations or comparisons need to be put firmly into context...

    Crop factor confusion

Yes that helps a lot. Now, someone correct me if I've called this wrong. But if we assume the FF and MFT cameras here have the same pixel count then the latter has crammed then into a smaller area thus giving the extra 'reach' (or perceived reach). While the FF crop achieves the same image as...

    Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Thanks for that, not waffle at all :) My biggest fear about smaller cameras is the lag, not getting that DSLR feeling of instant capture, but I understand there is none of that with the OMD. What held me back from getting one was the issue of focusing in low light and with moving objects...
