I recently ordered a step-down adaptor from amazon to allow me to connect a 58mm filter thread lens to a 52mm attachment. So 58mm male thread and 52mm female. When it arrived I have what I would call a step up adaptor - i.e. to allow a 58mm filter to be used on a 52mm filter thread lens...
Well I'll be using a Canon Slide Copier attachment which has a bellows to keep out stray light (for the 35mm slides and negs) but will be doing 6 x 6 also so may need a different solution for those
That makes perfect sense to me but I've seen the opposite advice in a few places.
I'm about to start digitising some old slides I have so I'll experiment a bit before I get stuck into large numbers :)

OK thx - I'll try again :) - it's the exposure that really has me puzzled I assumed that the camera would meter ttl when taking the exposure so should be in the right ball park - but as I say it's over exposing by two or 3 stops.
Can we see some of the shots you are unhappy with - I would have thought that they may just be very poor quality lens of ebay. The lens you have is capable of .34 lifesize I would have thought that's sufficient to get a lot of detail in a watch strap. Have you tried without the +4 lens and...
