    HDR - Is it 'natural'

I like it. I prefer subtle use of HDR, most people go tone mapping crazy, which looks awful to my eyes.

    Buying gear in New York

TIP1 : B&H will need to see your passport if you are paying over $500 on a credit card. I didn't know this and had go back to the hotel and then return to B&H before they closed at 2pm. It was Friday. They close at 2pm on a Friday. TIP2: B&H observes all the Jewish holidays, close at 2pm...

London hotels near something worth photographing

I always stay at the Club Quarters Trafalgar Square (AKA Grand at Trafalgar Square). It's in the middle of everything. It usually costs around £120 but can sometimes be had for as little as £90, which is pretty good for a 4 star in central London. 30 seconds walk to Trafalgar Square, 2...

    A great book Understanding exposure

I think most of the book was written before digital and the digital bit added in a later revision as an after thought.

    A great book Understanding exposure

I think Understanding Exposure is very, very over rated and I'll probably get flamed for saying it. Instead of explaining things in clear english, Peterson waffles on about his brother blue sky and mr green jeans nonsense which just make things more confusing. I'd recommend Scott Kelby's...

How long do you keep your raw files for?

I keep my RAW files forever, I've got around 9,000 so far. The RAW processing software is getting better all the time, so sometimes I go back to old files and re-process them. If you only have the JPEGs, you can't.
