    Accelerating quickly is more economical

I wondering if some modern diesel cars with better aerodynamics and much taller gearing might have a more gentle slope at higher speeds? I was getting about 58-60mpg at a steady 70mph, but about 62-63mpg at a steady 60mph.

    Accelerating quickly is more economical

That was my thinking originally until I gave it a try and monitored the average mpg for the same journey with different driving styles. The theory is you do 9mpg for say 15 seconds, followed by 9 minutes 45 seconds of steady state driving, compared to say 1 minute at 20mpg, followed by 10...

    Accelerating quickly is more economical

It's something I've thought about for the past few weeks and performed some informal/completely unscientific testing on my own. I drive a diesel 3 series BMW, which has 3 engine settings, eco pro, comfort and sport. On my daily commute, where I've got about 10 miles of dual carriageway with...

    Accelerating quickly is more economical

What with the current high fuel prices, and some local fuel stations running out (they were 5p/litre cheaper than others), it's worth noting that accelerating quickly to your target/cruising speed is significantly more fuel efficient than accelerating gently over a much longer period of time...

    Motorsport Photography Workshops

I believe some of their workshops (mostly overseas) give you media (trackside) access, but the UK based BTCC, GT Cup and World SBK ones seem to be spectator side only. What they offer are a portfoilio review, training sessions, advice on where to take photos from, review and editing sessions and...

The price increase on CFexpress Cards WOW!!!

I noticed the prices creeping up shortly after the big scare in DDR5 memory prices and a warning that SSDs and memory cards would also start to increase in price. I have since bought a few second hand cards from Ebay and CEX (with 5 year warranty) at "reasonable" prices. There are also a few on...

A good CFexpress Memory Card (Type B) for my Nikon Z6 III?

I think I have about 10 CF Express Type B cards of various makes and sizes which I use in my R3. I've not had any issues with any of them taking still photos, even at 30fps. I do quite often take 4k 100fps slo-mo videos, and a couple of the older smaller cards (64Gb) have complained after a few...

    Quillan, S. France

Looks great, but I think I've watched too many in car videos from Doune in Scotland, which make the Quillan one look pedestrian :D View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHSimgSV-5A

    Broadband deals 2026?

I'd been with BT for 15 years without any issues at all, having previously been with Virgin with who we suffered frequent loss of service, sometimes for only a few minutes, sometimes for 24h or more. Last year we switched to EE as we were able to upgrade to a faster speed (1.6G down) for...

All things related to Apple phones & tablets

I think I'm going to get my wife to try the Call Screening option by updating her phone to IOS26. She gets a lot of spam/scam phone calls, sometimes 2 or 3 per day. Like others, the majority are wanting to talk about a great deal to change provider, or "I'm calling about your car accident..."...

Why are people buying electric cars?

After visiting lots of dealer showrooms over a few weekends in January including many test drives, I ended up getting a mild hybrid diesel BMW 3 series. I'm averaging close to 50mpg on the daily commute, and almost 60 on the longer motorway runs. I reckon I'll keep this one for 5-6 years and...

Automatic tagging of cars and bikes

That’s odd, as it read the PDFs for BTCC and BSB for me which are TSL. It didn’t quite cope with the sidecars which had two names listed in an extra column and the format was slightly different. If you message Tony via WhatsApp he is normally quick to respond and keen to diagnose any issues. It...

Automatic tagging of cars and bikes

I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I’ve not tried the latest version as I’ve not had time over the past month or so, but will download it this weekend and see how it performs.
