    Camera store in San Francisco

If you've got a car then you could do worse than head out to Palo Alto to see Keeble and Shuchat. Great service from those guys when equipment let us down on a job out there last year. Decent prices too. Just back from 10 days in San Fran - love it. I think the touristy rides are all overhyped...

Best bag if you have a bad back?

Agree. Big bike crash a few years back left me needing to take it easy over rough ground: the Vertex 200 is perfect for walking with, as you can adjust for hips to take the real weight. It's BIG though. Needs gear to fill it!

    Nikon D90 buyer help

I'm rated 1400 at 100% on eBay, and all the people I have bought gear from on there have been highly rated also, so it can easily be the same thing. As someone who has done a lot of business using Paypal and eBay, I can tell you the £500 protection thing isn't worth a cent. Dot your Is and...

    Advice please d700 strap.

The search button works like a charm. I just got a D700 and don't want to fit the stock strap. The camera is superheavy with my 24-70 attached - walking around a show hall all day with it hanging off my neck would wipe me out! Have ordered an Optech Pro from West Lancs Photographic on...

Nikon DK-17M Magnifying Eyepiece, anybody use one ?

I had the DK-21 on my D90 and it was brilliant. Impossible to go without it after having used it! My new D700 viewfinder is great to use compared to the D70s/D300/D40/D90 I have had to date, but I'll probably give a magnifier a try if I can find a decent used one on eBay.

    d90 battery ??

Totally. I bought a unbadged version from HK on eBay and it has been fine. Now powering a D700 and lasts just the same as the original. Mine was under £15 delivered - can't argue with those prices. I'll be buying another couple for sure now the 700 is on board.

    Nikon D90 buyer help

Agree with all of the above. I can't see any chance of buying a D90 + 18-105 kit for £500. I just sold my D90 kit in under 12 hours (on another board) with a few little extras for £600. I am around to help with warranty if it is ever required, but the thing was as new in any case. Three...

Convince me NOT to get an iphone

Did the same myself. Went to iPod first (good move for extras availability), then iMac and now iPhone. Now use my 40gb iRiver as a pocket hard drive. Seriously, all are top products. Great support too when you buy Applecare.

Convince me NOT to get an iphone

Good move, you will not regret it. Mine runs loads of apps important to my business: organiser/diary, sat nav, pic library, blog software, ebay apps, Tweetdeck, Skype, guitar tuner, trip trackers, project & task managers etc and has never let me down. Also Youtube HD on an iPhone is off...

Can ISO handling ever 'replace' fast glass ?

Be careful before buying into the 'great pics at high ISO' hype. Not all new DSLRs are as good as they say at high ISO. I swapped a D300 I wasn't entirely getting on with for a D90 after reading this Ken Rockwell group test only to find that the D300 did a better job where I was shooting. Saving...

Whats going on in this image??

Looks like in-hood reflection to me too. But I am no expert. Can you retro flock coat the inside of the hood, like a dashboard, to prevent reflection? Think some of the old Nikon 17 or 20-35mm hoods have this done.

College Project - can you help?

Dunno about that. Some might speak 1,000 words but plenty are in the high 20s max. I can't immediately call to mind one photograph on my hard drive that replaces 1,000 words of storytelling.

    Why shoot RAW

I think this is the right decision, especially if you are just starting out and have a half decent camera. Enjoy taking pics and looking at/sharing them rather than having to process them. Shooting jpegs means you can share them straight away. I shoot most of my stuff in jpeg and I don't...

    Flickr vr's photobucket

I did not know that. Think I have a year left to run on my pro account. Doh! I have both and my own hosting also. It all comes in handy for various bits and bobs. Photobucket the best for forums.
