Fuji 56 1.2 for candid street shots

I think street photography with long lenses is boring. It should be about getting close to the subject so, my absolute limit is the classic 50mm (35mm on a APS-C system). Something between 24-35mm (equiv.) is perfect.

Official Stupendous Pentax K-1 and K-3 III thread

I'm no longer a fan of SLR cameras, but I have no doubt this will be the cheapest and better option in the segment. Some people are too concerned about the lack of lenses, but there are tons from the K, M, A, F and FA series. The first two need stop down metering, but the others meter perfectly...

    Wedding with 1 prime lens

When I used Canon full-frame, the 35mm L was on the camera almost all the time and I felt I could live with that lens only. After moving to a Fuji X-system a few years ago, I started to prefer the 28mm equiv. focal lenght and the 18mm f/2.0 is what I use 90% of the time. It obviously depends on...

    Broken 5D mk2 cost?

You should check on the right place how much does it cost to get it repaired, however £600 doesn't sound like an unfair price.

    Voigtländer Vitoret DR

Ah, as I thought. I'm portuguese too. :D About the possible light leak, try to ask the seller if he minds you to test the camera with a roll of film and check it by yourself. Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about that, since I'm sure he wouldn't lie just to sell such a cheap camera.

    Voigtländer Vitoret DR

Another typical problem is the accuracy of the shutter mechanism so, I recommend you to ask the seller if all the shutter speeds sound ok. A Vitoret in excellent condition can worth that, but it really has to be a good copy. By the way, are you portuguese? I'm asking because of your name. :)

    Lens doesn't focus to infinity

Unless you have experience to do it by yourself, it's probably a better solution to replace the lens instead of paying for the repair service. These lenses are really cheap and very easy to find. :)

What is your favourite camera of all time?

    Samyang 14mm f2.8 - on par with Nikon/Canon?

The MTF charts are so amazing that I'm considering to buy one for myself. It's much sharper than the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L II, sharper than a Canon 14mm f/2.8 L II (I know it sounds weird) and not far from the amazing Nikon 14-24mm. I'm just talking about sharpness of course, since a lens is...

What compact will give me the closest results to a DSLR?

My first choice would be (in fact I own one) a micro 4/3 camera, but if you're looking for something smaller and lighter, I think a LX5 or a used LX3 are excellent choices. Canon G10/11/12 are also great, but not as compact as the Panasonic.

    Canon D40 0r D500

40D - Better built, more confortable in most people's hands, faster AF and continuous shooting mode 500D - Slightly better image quality, video mode, lighter body

    Good starter DSLR?

I'm not really sure about the exact prices in the UK market since I'm portuguese, but any entry level dSLR will probably be good enough. If you're familiar with the Canon system, the 550D sounds like a good choice. You can get it with the 18-55mm IS or 18-135mm IS kit lenses. Both are ok, but...

    shutter, aperture priority or manual?

95% of the time I use the aperture priority mode and the exposure compensation dial when necessary. I rarely use flash and I rarely need to compensate more than -2 / +2 EV so, there's no point for me to shoot in manual all the time, since it would be a waste of time. I also use the shutter...

Thinking about switching from Canon to Nikon...

Yes, it is. I think he meant to say that he wants to keep using full-frame, but in a Nikon body, maybe to get a better AF system.

Do you really use a hood with your lens.

I use a lens hood with all my lenses, to avoid flare problems and especially to protect them, since I'm not a fan of protection filters.
