    New Sigma lenses

I also don't have those specific Sigma lenses, but do have two others. the 10-20mm and the 30mm F1.4. Both of which i'm very happy with, the 10-20mm covers the very wide angle landscape stuff very well. & the 30mm prime is as near to a fast nifty fifty as you'll get for a crop sensor...

    70-200 f 2.8 or f4. . . .

I've the F4L non-IS version, which i think is a cracking lens, really sharp pics and very quick focusing. Most of what I use it for is equestrian action shots, which means i'm using a high shutter speed anyway to freeze the motion, so don't really have an issue of not having the IS. So this...

    Canon 7D Issues

I've not touched the AF manual adjustment. as I mentioned in the earlier post it's possible the camera has had a knock, whether that could affect it or not I don't know. Does this AFMA only impact the autofocus through the viewfinder and not through the live view ? As it now seems clear...

    Canon 7D Issues

Thanks for the suggestions, tested it last night and yes pictures taken through Liveview are sharper than those taken through viewfinder. I guess this means i need to get someone professional to fix the AF system.

    Canon 7D Issues

Thanks for the suggestions. It's not a AF/MF switch issue, and both lenses are clearly auto focusing. Don't think it's a AFMA issue as the impact appears to be the same irrespective of apperture - while i'm clearly no expert I'd assume that minor issues with focusing accuracy would be more...

    Canon 7D Issues

I'm having trouble with my 7D. I've had the camera for approx 3yrs, and up until about a month ago have been delighted with it. Now all the pics are "soft". I typically use a 24-104 F4L & a 70-200 F4L lens and up until recently they produced razor sharp pics. Now everything is soft...

    Translation help please...

Nikon tends to get a good press for their AF systems, it's only really with the 7D have canon addressed this and come up with a real competitor. Shame that Canon chose to pinch the AF system for the 60D from the 50D rather than from the 7D. Personnally I went for the 7D, but then I already had...

Canon vs Nikon - which one to choose?

I have to agree with all those above who's said that it's down to what you feel comfortable with. One thing to note though, if you're looking to buy second hand lenses (and it's a great way to get good affordable glass) then there's normally a lot more choice of Canon and Nikon fit lenses than...

    Canon Upgrade advice reqd!

Have just upgraded my 40D to a 7D and keeping the old body as a backup - the 40D is an excellent camera, you won't be dispointed. re the Iso Issue - 3200 is really rather ropey, 1600 is ok providing you're not wanting to blow up the images too much. I tried to avoid taking mine beyond 1200 -...

    polarizer,any good

that's about a tenth of the price of a Hoya or equivalent - I'd certainly be suspicious as to whether it was worth having.... but if you're happy to experiment and don't mind if you miss the odd shot, then it is a hell of a saving!

    Sigma 10-20mm

It is one of Sigma's EX series (so better build quality) so don't think there'll be an issue second hand. even if I did get mine new. If you're looking a prices, IMO don't think it's worth the extra cash for the slightly faster F3.5 version, I've got the f4-5.6 and am very happy with it

    Canon or Sigma

I'd go for the 70-200L IS lens ever time, just a choice of the 2.8 vs the f4 (and depends on how much cash you've got to spend. these L telephoto lenses are superb, i've got the f4 and a 1.4x teleconverter which drops it to a F5.6 but that's still faster than the sigma. OK you don't have...

    Canon 28mm or Sigma 30mm ?

I'm looking to get an equivalent to a fast 50mm prime for my 1.6x crop body (Canon 40D) and so am looking at the Canon and Sigma alternatives. Seems the choice is either the Canon 28mm f1.8 or the Sigma 30mm f1.4, but am finding totally contradictory reviews. Ken Rockwell says sigma is crap...

    Upgrade to DSLR

I agree ! While I'm a Canon man, I can't beleive there's really that much difference between the Nikon and Canon offerings that this level. If you do opt for a new body, do still look at second hand lens options (hundreds of listings in the back of Amateur Photographer, plus of course on this...

    canon 24-70 or 24-105?

I had this issue myself and ruled out the 17-55 as I have this desire to upgrade my 40D to a FF at some point, and I plumped for the 24-105, the extra reach was the issue. Yes you loose an f-stop, but i've got IS and a good flash gun so really don't think that's an problem. & IMO the 24-105 is...
