    Digital archiving

Evening y'all. I'm doing a project looking at digital archiving for imaging, and I was wondering if you fine people could help me out. If you could spend a minute telling me how you ensure you keep those wonderful snaps you all take to show your grandchildren, I would appreciate it very...

Travelling South America - Equipment List

Agreed! When I hit south america I had a 28mm as my widest - REALLY regret not even taking a cheapo 18-55efs thing just for some of the things you'll see (especially if you go to eduardo avaroa park in Bolivia!)

What to Buy: Option 1 or 2?

If for portraits, I'd go with option 2.

    Camera Satchel

Best option IMO. I've found myself in a few places where it's nice not to have "I have a big expensive camera" printed on my bag, albeit mainly in third world cities. Means you can change the size of your bag whenever you want too!

    Sealife Centre

Bring a polarising filter for the tanks. Boost your ISO and keep the lens wide open!

Native Imp here. I can't offer to take you out with me, I only go there to see my Mother now and then these days but I can point you in the right direction for good places to shoot. The footbridge over Broadgate is a good start for trying long exposures; The abandoned Bracebridge mental...

    Kit to take abroad.

Ola! Right, three weeks on wednesday i'm off to sunny Peru for two months, and typically, the only thing i seem to be worrying about is what Camera equipment to take. Two of my cameras i'm fine with, a little digital compact and my lomo camera. I'm not sure what to do about my DSLR...

Upgrade from a 400D so I can shoot video

A sensor half the size of a postage stamp is bigger than most sensors on dedicated video cameras. DSLRs have HUGE sensors compared to most (a 600d has a sensor not far off that of a red one). Plus you have a huge range of lenses available without needing a 35mm adaptor. Plus its smaller /...

just got new dslr, what else

Final cut pro. A decent microphone is a MUST, a mixer if you can afford. Decent tripod. Shoulder rig. Look into magic lantern. It all depends on how much you have to spend.

    Newbie

What do you want to be filming? One lens is great for filming an intimate romance scene. Not great for filming geese flying through the arctic tundra.

Stick with MiniDV, use iphone, or upgrade

Why do you dislike .mov? Go video instead of tape, much quicker, easier and cheaper. Now Roger Deakins is using digital its cemented that (albeit he is on an arri alexa, i doubt you'll be spending that kinda money...
