Personally I have never seen much value in the formal group shots from weddings as a memory of individuals.

Agreed... it's a great camera for this, picture quality is superb and low light performance is good.
If you are used to relying on a zoom for framing it takes a bit of getting used to a fixed lens.

I think I knew that a Nikon body was the rational option...just the sentimental side of me considered the ME.
So yes, a FM or FE body is the way to go. Luckily, there are quite a few on ebay so shouldn't be too long before I get my mits on one.

Have purchased two lenses from them on different visits and found them helpful and pleasant.
They were giving loads of advice to a student while I was there and seemed happy to spend time explaining and answering questions.
