I've figured the problem - dodgy card reader. I transfer files directly from camera to computer and the files are fine! Phew

I'm using Transcend cards which I got from Amazon (directly from them). I'm going to troubleshoot by changing the card and the reader and see if that helps.

Ok this is a new development. Whilst in Bridge, I right click on the offending files and select "Purge Cache for Selection". What happens is that I've managed to 'recover' a few images, but with the others, the preview comes up temporarily before going back to a blank preview.
