What am I doing wrong? Pictures lack the "wow" factor.

Try more interesting compositions - rule of thirds, for example, or focus on detail like a close up of his eye or something. Experiment with depth of field by going close in with a large aperture. Do you use post-processing? Try photoshop elements to boost the contrast, saturation etc (go easy...

    WGW - Photographers actions

Remember, goths can smell fear and will become aggressive if cornered or they are protecting their young. On no account should a goth be approached during the breeding season. If a male goth moves into a new area please be aware that it is not unheard of for it to devour the offspring off its...

    Flickr on Firefox vs IE

Does anybody else notice that Flickr pictures look different depending on your web browser? Firefox displays colours pretty much as they are represented on my PP software but IE makes them go all to cock. Tried it on several different computers and it's the same with each one. Why is this? The...

    flash diffuser - overexposed

No, I realise that would have been helpful but I deleted them because they were rubbish :bonk:

    flash diffuser - overexposed

I was using a flash diffuser on a Sigma EF 530 DG Super the other day for a bit of macro work and every image I took came out massively over-exposed. Took the diffuser off and the exposure was perfect. I've used it before using a diffuser to no ill-effect. I was using auto TTL metering (flash)...

    Photographing children query

I'm a teacher and CRB'd up to my eyeballs so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for replying, what a minefield!

    Photographing children query

What's the 'done thing' as regards photographing children with whom you are not familiar? I was watching some kids down at the local skate park and they looked pretty good at what they were doing so I was wondering about practising a bit of action stuff. Obviously I'd ask their permission but...

    Lake district - Best locations

Wasdale, if you've got a bit of time to get to and from, as it's a bit out of the way. Camping at Wasdale Head, nice beer in a nice pub in the evening. Good times. If you don't fancy the trek over west then Ullswater is very picturesque, bit less wild than Wasdale though. Coniston is also...

    Macro Lens

What separates a macro lens from other primes is the distance at which it's capable of focusing. A macro will be able to focus a lot closer, meaning that it will be able to produce a larger image of your subject on the sensor. You can still use the macro as a 'normal' prime as well. Double trouble.

    Full Moon

Handheld, 450mm efl (300mm lens), f5.6, 1/500. Should have gone for f8 but I was young and stupid at the time.

Budget Tele Zoom lens for Sony A200

You can get a Sigma 70-300mm for similar money to those two options. The APO version would be maybe £40 more but even the non-APO is reasonable quality and has a larger aperture than either of those two.

This thread is hilarious. It's like Adrian Mole. Some nice photos too, good skills.
