I would be interested to give it a try having previously owned a canon 400mm prime. My Motorsport shots aren't great so id give the sigma lens a chance.

I know it's a fantastic lens, as I owned one and sold it about 9 months ago. I've had a baby since and hence the money shortage. I think I will wait until I can but the canon 400mm as it was a great lens.
I am currently looking at the Sigma AF 400mm f5.6 lens as a cheaper alternative to the canon 400mm prime.
My question is with it being an older lens will I have any compatibility problems with my 40D body?
I am looking at using the combo for shooting motorsports.

As above I will be using this lens for the first time at the world superbike championship at silverstone. Any hints or tips as to av or tv? Ive heard mf on a corner is another good technique for capturing good shots.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks
James
Ok biggest question now. 400mm f5.6 prime or 300mm f4 with 1.4x converter?
I like the idea of the IS on the 300mm but cant ignore the sharper better contrasted images the 400mm prime would give.
I wouldnt have any issue with AF using the 300mm and 1.4x convertor on a 40D would I?
Been on here a few weeks but thought I should say hi. Been in to photography for about a year and own a Canon 40d and 500d. I mainly shoot motorsports and the occasional portrait.
Got a site www.jhiggersonphotos.co.uk
Look forward to learning more on here
Forgive me this is a really newbie question but I am struggling to find the answer. Just bought a 2nd hand 40D, how do I find out the date of manufacture and total number of shutter actuations?
Oh and long story short Tijuana taxi, I had a 40D a few years back and sold it because I was short of cash, recently got back in to photography by buying a 500D but it made me realise how good the 40 was so I bought one second hand.
