    after some advice

Sounds like this is a focusing issue at root. AF-C as mentioned above is definitely a good idea, but best used in combination with back button focusing. Don't have a D3000, but lots of info on bb focus here: http://improvephotography.com/4552/back-button-focusing/

I can see what you mean about the focal plane, but how do you know that noise reduction has been applied?

Link to the Sports Gallery of the World Press Photo Awards 2012: http://www.worldpressphoto.org/gallery/2012-world-press-photo?category=2 Some great photographs in there. I particularly like Adam Pretty's Swimming Story - makes you think about converting more of your photographs to black...

    non league football grounds

Thanks Gary and Captain Penguin. Gary - I like your suggestion of contacting the paper first and seeing if they're interested. I could also see possible opportunities to photograph more rugby for them in the future. I'm not photographing for personal benefit (I'm not a photography student...

    non league football grounds

Thanks for explaining DemiLion and Gary. Could I ask what you would suggest that a non-pro do then? Specifically, I am student and I don't earn my income from photography. I do, however, take photographs for a local rugby club whose matches are reported on in the local paper. No photographs...
