    Which wide angle FF lens?

14-24 is the better lens for night photography but the 16-35 is a much more versatile lens. Optically they are pretty close unless you start pixel bashing! Personally I would choose the 16-35 for the extra reach and that I'll be able to use it in more situations.

Tethered shooting with USB on Nikon D300/D700

I used to do a fair amount of tethered shooting with the D200 (same body as the D300) and yes I had the same issues with the usb lead staying in the camera. As a quick solution I just used a couple of rubber bands to keep it in place which is fine when sitting on a tripod but becomes less useful...

How can you tell if there is going to be a nice sunrise/ sunset

If we knew that then everyone would be a landscape photographer! Some of the best sun rises/sets have been when they look most unlikely all it takes is for a small band of clear sky on the horizon for it to be spectacular and even then those moments can only last minutes if not less. I had a...

Is it a bad Idea to have a go at loads of styles of photography?

It's important to do work you enjoy. I've been a photographer for 5 years and have shot all types of genres of photography and still get interested by other types of photography, even though my personal work is predominantly Landscapes. It's always important to keep your options open as you may...

Sb 900 died already? Zoom err....

I just had this heart stopping moment of a issue happen to me too. Fortunately for me it turned out to be the batteries that were on the way out. However I have used this flash on the beach for photo shoots and I am concerned by the lack of weather sealing! I'll have o take care of it next time.

    Shooting sky's

Mark has said it in a nut shell. A camera can only capture a certain amount of detail in the highlights and shadows so capturing one image of a scene (especially into the sun) isn't enough so that's why ND grads and 'exposure blending' is used. I personally use the latter as ND grads can be a...

Remote shutter release for Nikon D800

Actually I have read that the built in intervalometer can fail, so not something you would want to rely on for a 2 hour star trail. and yes it is a hassle to set up but the remote is an extra piece of kit to remember to take, which doesn't work well with me!

Remote shutter release for Nikon D800

I used one of these for my D200 and never failed, however I kept on loosing them! What do you need it for? I now have a D800 and with a built in intervelometer I don't need one anymore.

    Nikon Prime advice

I found the 50mm 1.4 on a DX too cropped for most situations but after upgrading to FF it's now a dream of a lens. 35mm is near to make no difference 50mm equivalent so I would possible pick that but bare in mind if you go for the Nikon DX version it won't work on FF, well with very heavy...
