Thanks for your comments. I guess its not of massive importance that I get the absolute best camera for me at the moment as its a learning curve still and I will learn to appreciate the pros and cons as I use my next investment that will then put me in good stead if upgrading further...

It does seem that within the Canon range, 2nd hand with lens options, I am limited to the EOS 1100D, 550D and 600D. Has anyone experience of using these cameras and possibly would recommend one other others given the nature of the pictures I want to take? Many thanks again

Hello! For obvious reasons on the above I would think that most people would steer clear of the cheap offerings on EBay as you get what you pay for but.......has anyone just taken a punt on cheap product? Id be interested to hear what people have found?!

Did look at hiring but we are away for 3 weeks in April and then have a return party mid May so for hiring for almost 4 weeks would cost horrendously more than buying!

Yeah, I would say £300 is the max to be honest. Im not really a photography guy but want something good to record our trip. I have no doubt that anything will be an upgrade on what im used to but want to get the best for my money if poss.

Also, I see that the Panasonic FZ45 reviews very well in the bridge camera section. The only thing it lacks is potential zoom but when combined with a 1.7 telephoto lens it has the largest zoom and still comes in for around £300? Anyone got experience with this camera and advise on the cameras...
