I think thats around the time my brother left PWRR.
Having to buy your own equipment now can potentially bankrupt you, i do feel sorry for your bank balance :'(
Here is a windows Installer that should stop you needing to compile from source on Windows:

Gimp really is good for a starter package. See how you get on with it before spending money on a commercial package.
My main work is as Lead Software Developer for one of the UK's largest mobile networks, and deal with alot of IT companies every day and know just as many Mac users as Windows, on the desk I am sat at now there are 5 Mac Books and 6 Windows desktops. For the design industry (whether Photoshop...
I didnt see the point really, but got it just as a web tablet and Ebook reader, but use it for alot of things from Video watching when i travel for work, gaming, drawing and photo viewing.

I was exclusive windows up until August, when I invested in aMac Book Pro. Beautiful machines. It runs a dualboot of Snow Leopard and Vista Ultimate very well indeed. No crashes from either OS yet

Ahh....I so need to get one, at £215 you cant go wrong!. although convincing the girlfriend is another issue al together!!!
good work again, I really do like it!
Great
