Here is a windows Installer that should stop you needing to compile from source on Windows: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html Gimp really is good for a starter package. See how you get on with it before spending money on a commercial package.

    Anyone getting an iPad?

Think the short answer at the moment is no, It is not possible. The USB camera adapter essentially works as external card reader of sorts. Shame though as would love this feature, and I'm sure maybe in time it'll happen but not until Apple remove some API restrictions.

I was exclusive windows up until August, when I invested in aMac Book Pro. Beautiful machines. It runs a dualboot of Snow Leopard and Vista Ultimate very well indeed. No crashes from either OS yet In a recent Magazine (think PC Pro) MBP's were rated as best laptops at running vista :D

    Shooting the moon

Nice job Sarah! I find under exposing the picture allows you to bring out more detail. Although I haven't seen the moon in a few days with all the clouds :-(

    Mirror lens on a Nikon

Great thanks guys, to be honest it's mostly going to be for moon / space shots, and possibly a few terrestrial shots, not many. I'm thinking for the price difference and it's intended use, i'll go with the mirror over the Nikkor 500mm ;-)
