Beginner Portrait of 1 year old, and 2 month old - Advice? Tips?

Hi there. I'd like to get some nice shots of our young children but it's tricky to get them both at the same time. The 2 month old oviously can't sit up unaided, and the 1 year old isn't interested in sitting still much at all. We've got a nice bedroom with decent natural light, and big white...

Which fullframe Canikon matches the Pentax K5 build?

I find the auto focus terrible even in good light, but unusable after dusk. To the point that I think it might be faulty. I am tempted to get a K3, but then I think, "if I'm getting a new camera am I not better off going full frame." I love 70mm+ portraits and feel I'd benefit from more in...

Which fullframe Canikon matches the Pentax K5 build?

Thanks Nod. I'll have a look at those. Is there an easy way to sum up the range above the D800, in terms of what numbers to look at? What about the Canons?

Which fullframe Canikon matches the Pentax K5 build?

I own a Pentax K5 which I love but it has some flaws and I'm considering upgrading to a K3. I don't want to be blinkered though, and I was after some help from Canon and Nikon owners. Which models are metal-housed and full-frame?

Where online to get photos made into cards?

I'm after recommendations for websites that can produce a batch of greetings cards using a photo of ours. Looking at Moonpig, Vistaprint, Snapfish etc, but if anyone's has good recommendations or words of warning, I'd be grateful to hear them. Thanks for any help.

Beginner Ideas for photos of pregnancy bump

Hi there, not sure where this should be, really. My wife and I aren't really the Facebook-selfie-everything-I-do-is-amazing-look-at-me-look-at-me sort of couple but we would like to take some photos to remember this moment in our lives - my wife is due to give birth to our first child. I'd...

Would BBC report average man donating £150?

Steven Gerrard has donated £96,000 to charity and the BBC describe it as a huge donation. I'm not knocking Gerrard but I don't understand the BBC. The man earns £17.2 million a year in salary and endorsements. The donation amounts to 0.56% of his annual salary. The average salary in the...

    Lens Hoods

I always go for cheap eBay hoods. Metal for the primes and rubber 3-stage collapsibles for teles. I've found them to be excellent quality. The only hood I've had break has been a proprietary one. Let others subsidise the profits of the big boys, save some cash, and get whatever shape hood you want.

    DIY shoulder strap

Thanks for your comments guys. Yeah, I added a Cobra buckle because we did want to be able to detach the camera from the strap. It's an ASCI certified buckle tested to 21kN. I'm not worried about it failing, but it does increase the risk of user-error. That's something we decided was worth the...

    DIY shoulder strap

I've made a few changes... Since these pictures I replaced the black plastic triglides with lower profile metal ones from ebay. This is so I can switch quickly between two sizes (large loop for me, small loop for SWMBO). The Maillion is just so the excess webbing hangs more neatly when it...

    Wedding Lens Recomendation

I can't talk from photographic experience but I can from experience of weddings having been to a fair few. Personally, I think a zoom is a much better choice than a prime. At most of the weddings I've been to, you can't frame a shot with a prime because there'll be tables, dancers, a wedding...

Lens Caps: slow to remove, easy to lose

Does anyone else find lens caps a pain? My wife complains because they're fiddly to remove and so we miss shots. I've managed to lose two. I was thinking of something like the Optech Fast Cap:- Are there any other options?

    DOF... where's it going?!

It's not focus is it? There's ghosting (forgive the beginner terminology) around left-guy's jaw line and each side of right-guy's head.

    Best Bridge for £350?

I'm looking at the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS or the Nikon P520. I don't think the budget will stretch to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX200. Is one better than the other, or is there another I should be considering? A while back we bought the parents a tiny Casio point-and-shoot, as they coveted my...
