Yeah sorry, should have been more specific. That's good news then. If I were the OP, I'd be much more inclined to a used D90 than a new D3100. Although that could be my bias, but I'd imagine that even now, the 90 is still a lot more camera than the 3100?

Of note with the Tamron is that apparently the older and thus cheaper non-VC version of the lens is actually sharper than the VC one. Lots of reports that the VC is soft, which put me off I must say.

I did a bit of shooting from ac last year. The three biggest things were clean windows. Although you get away with it somewhat with the lens as wide as it will go and generally at infinity focus. Secondly, cloud cover. Even a little mist will kill the contrast and make the pics look boring...

Yep, iso is prob one that has the biggest effect. Then theres CH drive mode, AF-C, focus point lock etc. At least they're pretty apparent when shooting tho. I tend to leave my tripod mount on and never remove my CF card. Prob bad practice mind you...

I've been playing with my SB600 as a fill in flash too recently. Makes quite a difference. If you've got a camera that will do high speed sync, called Auto FP in the flash sub menu, it seems to work well for outdoor portraits. Be aware though that the way it works means that your flash range...
