I use CS5 and Lightroom 3 on my MacBook pro.
I have always used these and simply upgraded to the newer versions when they come out. I don't think I would change now as everything has become second nature.
I'll upgrade to the newer versions once I have bought a new computer.
I personally have never had a problem wit WD hard drives. I never trust them though, always have as many backups as possible. All the really important stuff I am in the process of burning to DVD's.
I have also been thinking about the Canon G11. From what I understand it's the one to go for and available at a pretty good price second hand. I am a Nikon user and love there SLR kit but I don't seem to get along with their compacts. Canon have that side of the market sewn up for me.
Another shout out for the 70-200. I'm currently saving to buy mine. Its a brilliantly made lens and I feel that it would be more bang for my buck than say the 85mm f1.4 (that ones next ;)
Your getting a lot for the money with brilliant optics.
From what I understand with the apple camera connection kit you get two adaptors, one sd and one usb. You can plug a card reader into the usb or connect straight from camera. It will import your raw files and also duplicate them to jpeg so you can vie them straight away.

Just had a quick look on ebay for you as I just realised your budget. The G10's seem to go for a little more than your budget allows @ around £150-200.
Still an option to consider, pop into your local Jessops or something and have a play with the new G12. They are pretty similar.
Have you thought about something like a Canon G10/11/12?
Nice compromise on size, still shoots RAW, has a hotshoe for creative lighting if you choose to use it and can be used manually.
From the sounds of things it ticks all the boxes.
The extractors work well but sometimes are a bit too big to fit on. My dad has a few in the garage. Failing that, crack the welder out and its easy as pie. The link did make me LOL though, almost as much as the one I saw about a guy putting NOS energy drink in his motorbike thinking it was...
