Show us yer film shots then!

Thank you! It's bizarre to think there's less than a minute between the two photographs. Holga 'charm' indeed! :P

What sure what the general 'vibe' is on Holga's and the like here, they're a bit like Marmite on photography forums... But two from my Holga. Which fell down a cliff just before I took these them... Both shot on HP5, dev'd in Rodinal 1:1

Just won this Helios 135mm f2.8 on the bay. Any good?

You're not gonna go too far wrong with 135mm lenses. Enjoy. Also, I have the 44 f/2, which is a strange little one - The bokeh can all go a bit mad, but I quite like it. It can makes everything look a bit 'cartoonish'. I really must get an M42 adapter for it :)

Show us yer film shots then!

Oh, I'd love to :) I've actually been developing for a good few years, from 4x5 to 35mm, but I'm just after moving to the UK, and don't have the room to do it unfortunately - plus I left whatever bits and bobs I didn't give away back home!

Deciding what colour backdrop to get

Always go white! Always!! Keep some distance between people and backdrop so they can be lit separately, so you're going to have a difference in light if someone is wearing white (Not too likely tbh). As mentioned, you can reduce the amount of light hitting the backdrop to get a gradient of...

    Hello

They are pretty fantastic alright! :p

Black and white but blue tone?

I find the biggest problem is that the toning can be quite flat, which is where being able to tone the highlights and shadows seperately works great - have you played with blending methods much? For example, a bluish tone, set to Soft Light, then reducing the opacity to about 10%?

Wedding togs ... what do all you wedding togs use to carry your gear on the day?

I've a Lowepro Computrekker AW for the laptop, heavier or less used lenses, external HD's, backup camera, spare shirt, etc. It tends to stay in the car until I get to the hotel. Then one of the larger Crumpler shoulder bags for general walking around. Fits 2 cameras, 4 lenses and 2 reflectors...

Black and white but blue tone?

Ah, presets are no good to you then I'm afraid - There are still plenty of ways in CS4, using the Photo Filter adjustment layer being about the simplest of them - You've got the channel mixer along with plenty of other toning methods to use too! Don't forget to play with blending methods to get...

Black and white but blue tone?

What are you processing your images with? If you're using Lightroom, you can get some great toning by dividing your tones into the highlights and shadows. If you want to send me on your email, I can forward you some presets?

    Skin Smoothing

If you don't mind me butting in, if the images are for print, I'd stay away from a lot of the actions out there - They can come up quite wrong looking in print. Portrait Pro is probably the best of the lot, but it's still very overpowering. If I were going to use it, I'd work away with it, then...
