    Sigma 70-200 ribbon cable woes

A while ago I bought a s/h sigma 70-200 f2.8 quite cheap (£185) as it wouldn't work on full frame. As I have a D300 this wasn't much of an issue for me and it's has been fantastic since. Lovely, lovely images and not too soft at f2.8 at all. Now the bad news. All of a sudden though the mount...

Any space/time travel/alien/creationist/theorist, nerds out there?

putting religion aside (it's a belief system - you either believe or you don't) and getting back to the OP ... are you one of the rational sciencey geeks or do you put credence in the glass pyramids on the moon type of speculation ?

Still, canonies are so easy to wind up :)

    Canon 50mm f/1.4

to be fair to Canon, the IS version is much improved. If you have this one, then it's the right quality at the right price. Was more talking about the old I or II

    Canon 50mm f/1.4

honestly, it is. You could take your grannies specs, a loo roll and some gaffer tape and make a better lens than the canon 18-55. It's frankly shameful that a quality company puts out such a poor effort when the rest of it's lenses are pretty damn good.

    Canon 50mm f/1.4

I love how canon users go potty about the nifty fifty. Shows how awful the 18-55 is

    Kit 18-55 versus 50mm f1.8 ?

definately buy both, but try with your 18-55 at 35mm and 50mm to see which distance you prefer. Then buy either the 35mm prime or the 50mm (The 50 will be cheaper)

Cheap and small Nikon DSLR for wife.

I loved my D60 for the fact that I could say 'turn it to green' if I gave it to my wife and she'd be able to get good shots without any hassle.

    Sharpness or complete lack of!?

Hi Steve, I used to have a 55-200VR and thought it was pretty sharp when I first got it. I then had a Sigma 150-500 which is much more expensive lens so I thought I'd do a test with my D300. they are 100% crops of the centre of the lens, focus was on the satellite dish which was about...

    70 - 300mm capable of Macro???

I've got the Sigma 70-300 David. I paid £105 for mine second hand. I used to have a Nikkor 55-200 VR and a big expensive Sigma 150-500 monster zoom also. Did a test of all three at 200mm, and at 300mm and 500mm respectively and the 70-300 was considerably sharper and had more contrast than the...

    70 - 300mm capable of Macro???

Hi David, as you already have a nice 50mm prime, one of the other things you can do with it is get a reversing ring to convert it into a macro lens. It sounds nuts but it does work although you will need good lighting on your subject...
