Camera for beginner - Bridge or DSLR?

Canon XXXD are a great place to start, even an older one is a great place to start. Interchange able lenses, even ultra high end pro glass will work on it so you could use it for years, as I did, before getting a mid to advanced DSLR. They have full auto setting to full manual and everything...

    X-Rite ColorChecker Passport

I would say this is the exception not the rule. I emailed them about the monki and had a reply same day. Then phoned them a couple times in one day, they were super in my experience. Both products do just what is says on the tin

    X-Rite ColorChecker Passport

Well now that I've used it for a while all I can say is - sorry waited so long. All the chatter about a monitor cal aside for a moment this was a great investment. maybe not for every one but with it's LR3 integration I get true to life colors in seconds with no deliberation. Also if I want...

    Good value UV filters?

I am of the converted group. I used to have a UV on every lens and used them a a meter of Standard process. Now I only use them if I feel the front element may be at risk. Such as salt water spray while at the beach. Close race track shooting where debris may be trown at me/camera or...

The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=351851 Here are a few of mine from a recent day at SS where my conclusion was, there are several places for a good look at the action without looking through the catch fence. I wish I was staying in the UK longer so I could go back again.

L series lens on entry level slr's

good set up important, good glass important, camera body captures images the glass shows to the sensor. Most of the cost in a body is down to features, sensor quality all on it's own between a entry level, prosumer, or pro body will show differences but not as clearly as consumer glass versus L...

    Photoshop(elements) image merge

Thanks for the feedback guys. Agree on the sky comments, I struggled with it as it took ages to find one that was lit in the right direction. I did think at the time though it was still to dramatic and was taking from the foreground. May have a another go tonight with the sky.

    Photoshop(elements) image merge

I used three images to create on and as I'm not experienced in this area thought I'd share and see what you thought. I would say it is a very in experienced attempt but after a concept trial i did go back around it. C&C welcome Regards T

    F4 or F2.8 ?

24mm 1.4 prime and 35mm 1.4 also good for shots that are not full body length on cropped body. You can get really nice full body length images too but you will have to plan them as the distance you need could allow other people to get between you and your subject. shoot between 2.8 and 4.0...

    Help on panning please

hard to believe at that iso you would get shutter speeds fast enough for BIF, you've got the right idea, keeping iso low, but you will need shutters speeds near 1600th for BIF to be sharp. suggest starting faster if you have the light to do so then slow down for panning blur if required
