Finally buying an L Series lens

    Talk her into getting a used 16-35L mk I - I absolutely LOVED mine on the 40D. Got a set from it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dk_spook/sets/72157604668673852/ Like a 17-40L - but F/2.8 ;)

    Swapping from canon to nikon!

I've been eyeing the D700 for it's AF - but I'll never be able to give up my 50L and 24L lenses. When they make an EF mount D700 or a 5D mk III with usable AF, I'll be all over it. Until then, it's 5D mk I for me.

    Balancing the room

Thanks for the feedback guys! I love sharing the "boring" stuff like this - Helps me remember my own setups as well  ...and the boring shots are way more likely to pay the bills ;)

First band promo shoot - advice welcome

Get some gels for that flash! Add another flash if you can (you're gonna want more flashes down the road anyways). Pick one from the old EZ series of speedlites, much more affordable than the EX series but great for manual flashwork. I went gel crazy on this shoot...

    Canon 430EZ - Strobist???

Do it. I have 3 540EZs and I'd love to get some more. Great units with a lot of punch at a VERY favorable price. 60-70£ on Ebay.co.uk :)

    Balancing the room

I got a challenge at work: Shoot one of our conference rooms showing the projector at work while bringing attention to the room control system. (click for bigger) I did this using 3 speedlights: From left to right: (All are Canon Speedlite 540EZ) 1/32 power, super clamped to the...

    Ray Flash - First impressions

Can't stop playing with this thing. Just took it off camera and tried something out: 580EX II @ 1/32, handheld just outside the frame. Gotta try this some more... Nice softish light this way. I need to get hold of some better looking models. For some odd reason I'm always tired and...

    Ray Flash - First impressions

Sure there's a light loss - simple physics :) I don't have a flash meter, so I can't tell you exactly how big of a loss there is - But as DiddyDave points out, a ring flash isn't something you'll use to light up a room. Mine will be used as fill, either balancing against the ambient or using...

    Ray Flash - First impressions

Wee, my long-awaited Ray Flash is finally in my hands. And by that, I mean on my flash which in turn is on my camera. Got home from vacation today and it was sitting here waiting for me. This is not a detailed review (yet), just my initial impressions. Build quality & overall physical...

    What macro

I've owned the Canon 100mm until recently and had a chance to try out the Tamron 90mm as well. Both are equally sharp. Really, they are. I did a side-by-side test and the incredibly boring results are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dk_spook/sets/72157606556168117/ But here is why I...

    Ex580 ii eats batteries.

+1 on the Eneloops. I have 24 Eneloop AA's and a slow charger - The one that comes with the Eneloop kit :) "Slow" is just not a strong enough word though... about 15-16 hours for a full charge. But I guess thats only a problem if you don't have enough batteries :D

    Where to buy the 50L?

Just hit the buy button on Ebay - £1099. Then when I did the math, it wasn't much cheaper than buying from new here in Denmark. Haven't paid it yet, have just asked the seller when I could have it here in Denmark.
