It's the only other lens I still use on a regular basis after getting the 24-70. The bigger aperture does make a difference and there are plenty of days when I don't want to lug around the L.

An interesting read, but still pretty poor advice. Whenever someone thinks "Oh, I might try my hand at [insert hobby here]" it doesn't mean that they should jump to the top-of-the-line equipment for that hobby, because they might want to upgrade later. I don't know of too many 17...

The height was important to me too. I'm about 6ft2, so the 190 would have involved no small degree of stooping. With that said, if I were to go on any lengthy outings I might prefer to take a lighter, shorter tripod such as the 190 and put up with the height, or lack thereof.

First thing to do would be to weigh the heaviest kit you'll be putting on it. The 055 does have a fair heft to it, but it is considerably sturdier than the 190. The 055 certainly isn't prohibitively heavy for taking out now and again, but I wouldn't want to go on any long hikes with it. The...

I've no idea what this is like, but it could be a possibility: http://jag35.com/new/products/jag35-monitor/ It states: "Works with Canon 5DmkII, 7D or any HDMI Device" I think both the D300s and the D5000 have HDMI connectivity, albeit a smaller port in the case of the latter.
