    Can I use a tablet ?

I've been using an Asus Transformer (like the Xoom but with a keyboard dock). It has a full sized SD card holder on the dock and can mount USB devices via 2 USB ports. So you can use it to view and to dump files onto a USB HDD. I've tried it with the Eye-Fi app for auto transfer but with only...

anyone shot a Naked Sports calendar?

It was pro-bono as a fundraiser for a local club member who had suffered a freak accident and is now almost totally quadriplegic. If I was costing the time it would probably be a total of 30-40 hours. And a lot of thinking time. It's actually the first time I had done anything like this, so...

anyone shot a Naked Sports calendar?

Did a calendar that had some nude pics in last year. First time I have shot naked (or in some cases, semi naked) people. http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidmam/sets/72157625256902425/ Find somewhere private. Talk to people, explain what you want and are trying to achieve with each shot...

    Any cycling photographers here?

Done a bunch of TTs (photographed and ridden (slowly)) What Stew says. But a couple of extra points. 1. Work out where the sun (if any) will be coming from and ensure that works for you (then pick background/location etc.) 2. Take a carrymat and sit down. You do want your lens to be lower...

    Charity Bike Ride

How long is it? What mix of riders? That will dictate how mch pressure you have to get between locations. The start and finish shots you should be OK with - pick a relevant iconic background if you can. (this is presuming they are group photos.) Along the route pick your own location...

    Scotland trip advice please!

The Bealach na Ba is well worth a visit. I'd love to go back some time when I am not cycling up there so I can enjoy the view a bit more. Torridon/Applecross/Loch Carron etc. Ratagan and the Brochs at Glenelg. If you have the time take the road up from Lairg to Bettyhill - Strathnaver is...

Adventures in a (fairly) dark room - or making prints without a dark room

Acetate blocks UV so is not a great negative substrate. I am attempting something like this (but radically different in terms of what I am printing) but still have a need to generate a positive on glass. ..d

    Suggested locations in Dundee

There are a bunch of alleys near the town centre, the 'mills' area around West Hendersons Wynd and other cobbled streets. Mary Ann Lane might do for the sort of look you are after. There is a ruined church in Invergowrie. The old railway lines are all taken up (since the '60s) but you might...

Calling all Landscape togs..!!!" & anyone that knows the isle of skye"

This is pretty much spot on. The walk over to Camasunary can take some time - it is a rough track. The road down to Elgol is single track with passing spaces and the drop to Elgol harbour is very steep. With good light you will spend much time there. It may be only 12-15 miles from Broadford but...

Primary School Asked Me To Do Talk & Demonstration? HELP!!

    1. get them involved. Pick a volunteer and get them to take a photo (tethered is good as it then can be shown instantly). You can then get them and the class to say what they like or don't like about it, then get suggestions to make it better and get the person making that suggestion to do it...

Unauthorised photo use by a foreign website

A foreign manufacturer website (they make OEM night vision stuff) has very cheekily pinched one of my pics to use as a banner. No request, nothing. (I found it doing a tineye search) The concerning thing is that this image is under an exclusive license to a UK organisation for web use (yes I...

Very high contrast B&W from FP4

I have a rather bizarre little project that may or may not come off. As part of this I need to generate very high contrast, almost lithographic, negatives on sheet film. (my initial tests will be with images printed onto transparency film with a laser printer to make a fake 'negative') What...

    My last post

I think you can teach composition and such like. Most everyone can look but you have to practice seeing. But not everyone can learn. I had the benefit of a much older photographer who, when I was 10/11/12 or thereabouts would take the time to go through pictures from my latest roll of film...

    My last post

This is an interesting discussion. Much of SoccerSnappers advice seems to be the 'forgotten obvious' to those who come from a 'traditional' background. My main sport is cycling but I'd shoot anything when I was at Uni in the late '80s. Hoping for good images when you have 1 roll of film per...

Nikon F501 found in the loft

None of those lenses will autofocus on your D40. The 70-210 is quite nice if you stop down to F8 (I have one I am about to eBay having replaced it with a 55-200VR) but I don't rate the 35-70 much and no idea what the other one is (vivitar?)
