    Canon 24-105

Nice to see you, I'm also returning to the forums after a long hiatus! I think it depends on what you plan to do whilst in Yellowstone; if you're going just to do e.g. nature/bird shoots and landscapes then there might not be much point since the other lenses would have that covered quite...

+1 from me... super price and delivery on a grip :)

Lens Dilema - Canon 7D - Driving me nuts!

It's a tough one... as always with Canon's lineup, there doesn't seem to be a single lens that has all the features you want. The main contenders are, without doubt, 1) 17-55 IS 2) 24-105L IS 3) 24-70L 4) 17-40L My choice was the 24-105 - it offers IS, constant f/4 (which I found was not too...

    Filter for 10-20mm lens

I would say that unless you have a specific purpose for the filter, then there's no point in going for it. For example if you want to cut reflections on lakes, cars and soforth then buy a CPL. If you're going up mountains or want to reduce haze, then buy a UV. But in my mind at least it's...

    40D 2nd hand or 500D

I think you're making the right decision... I went from 350D to 40D about 18 months ago and haven't looked back since :) The viewfinder did it for me.

    Canon Powershot SX1 IS help!

Totally agree with the above - typically any kind of additional lens you put in front of this is going to degrade image quality quite significantly. Make sure you really test this camera out. My friend has an SX1 so I've had a chance to play with it a bit. I found that the video quality in...

    5D II - Wish I had a crystal ball

Considering how long the previous 5D went on for, if you're looking at waiting then it might take a while! If I were you I'd go for it. If I had the cash at the minute I might be doing the same!

Price rises - strangely good for us?

I know what you mean when it comes to the flash photography. I got a 580EX II a couple of months ago when I was running two bodies... now I'm getting into multiple flashes with my 430EX as slave and trying to get lighting right in awkward spots.

Price rises - strangely good for us?

I was originally going to come along and say "nah, it's a pain in the ass with prices so high", but actually - for me at least - it's pretty good. I've only really been shooting for 3 years, and most of my gear purchases have been over the last 18 months. Thanks to kerso and some serious...

    What walk about L-series lens?

My vote would be for the 35L. It's bloody expensive (especially now) but, to be honest, it stays on my body now more than the 24-105! Focal distance is just right for portrait and small group shots.

    BG-E3 grip arrived today

I got my BG-E2 for the 40D a few days ago (courtesy of MPB Photographic :-)) and it's fabulous. The added weight balances out the camera nicely and portrait shooting is really easy. Enjoy!

    100-400mm lens advice

Go for the 100-400. I've got one, and it's fantastic - you really won't regret it.

    Significant snow event.....

Checking the forecast it looks like we're going to have a dusting for the next couple of hours, but then another front is going to move in later on in the day with more very heavy snowfalls, even in the West Midlands which is a major surprise - we never get any snow! Thankfully, I have the day...

Camera Advice when Travelling to America!

I'd say go for the ones you have listed there. I have a 10-22 and it was basically glued to my camera around NYC, and my 24-105 was very useful as well. Probably not worth taking a telephoto.

    Jessops post another huge loss

I can't see them lasting too much longer. According to some other articles, when they breach their banking arrangements, the banks could call in their loans. Apparently this is unlikely; their approach will probably be to refuse any more credit to the company. If they are reliant on that credit...
