Yes Jim, i stood right next to that tractor and i could get up close to fence just infront of the building, you could shoot through the gap near the marshalls post but you would probably need a long lens, see below.

This is the view of Redgate now, they have moved the spectators further back, so you can't get a good shot through the fence of the start/finish straight now.

3 miles there and back. If I'm in at 8am then it takes about 10 mins with traffic, if I'm in at 6am then around 5 mins.
