    WA options for a 5DMKII

I also use a Siggy 12-24mm and it's a fun lens, although I'm starting to view the UWA as a bit gimmicky as time goes on. Mind you, I think it's got more to do with me going through a 50mm 'serious' phase at the moment ;)

    Does it spoil it?

Age old argument which'll never resolve itself! In my view, nothing beats good composure, whether analogue or digital. No amount of studio work or Photoshopping is going to make a duff picture look good. Where you have got something good, then, in all honesty, Photoshop pretty much enables you...

    undecived 24- 70 or 105

Same here - I use the 24-70 for events and the 24-105 as my travel lens on a 5d Mk2. With a CP on the end, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between either with outdoor shots from 4.0 upwards to be honest. Indoors there's a slight difference where lighting is limited. Obviously IS counters...

A bit of advice on shooting in RAW

Scott, I use Faststone as my quick RAW preview programme and DPP (comes with the camera) to do the actual processing, once I've chosen which ones I want to use. I really would get into the habit of using RAW as, like has been said above, it's essentially the digital equivalent to a negative...

Canon Live View - what is it for?

Funnily enough I was wondering the same thing not so long ago! Then I was at FOI in Brum, and was taking some shots at the modelling 'set ups'. Unfortunately, being a shortarse and stuck behind a throng of happy snappers, I couldn't get a shot normally, so I switched into live view, face...

    Hand held shutter speed!

Unfortunately I'm not that good with hand-held. It's not that I've got shaky hands or a loose posture, quite the opposite in fact. But God help me if I can't get a crisp shot below 1/125. Therefore, I tend to shoot in bursts of three if I'm not using a tripod. I know some people will consider...

Taking my camera on a long-haul flight, anything i should know?

I'm with the others - err on the side of caution and fit as much as you can into your hand luggage and pockets. Your 50mm will fit in your jacket or shorts pockets, as will the flashgun. Broken 28-300 in the big case - everything else in hand luggage - you should be ok ;)

Colour photos from WW1 era Russia

Hi all, I just spotted this link on one of my friend's facebook pages: http://www.damninteresting.com/color-photos-from-the-world-war-i-era It's the history of a series of pictures by a Russian photographer, Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii, taken in 1909. Although he only had black &...

    Lenses For 400D ?

Well, if you're shooting into water, get yourself a circular polarizer to get rid of the surface reflection; it makes a huge difference! Not sure about the lenses - you can't got wrong with a nifty-fifty, but with a polarizer on and using in low light, I'd imagine there'd be quite a lot of...
