Torn whether to buy a compact

I had the RX100mkI and image quality was alright, nothing to write home about, but alright. Have just picked up a G7X and absolutely love it! Worlds apart from the Mk1 in all honesty!

The "Canon Powershot G Series" owners thread

Got this camera a couple of months and absolutely love it. Has become my go to for out and about landscapes... here are some from a recent 3 peaks walk:

What kit to buy with a wedding in mind...

Went back and looked at some samples and you are right. .. nothing wrong wwith the lens even at wide apertures. Just looking for an excuse to upgrade/try something new and thought the 90mm macro may have been a way to do that on a budget but think the limitations would have been too apparent...

What kit to buy with a wedding in mind...

Hi all, I am due to shoot a friends wedding towards the end of the month (they were not that bothered by photos and most importantly cannot afford a pro). I was planning on using the same kit I have used for a couple of weddings in the past (pretty much just 35mm and 85mm primes, with a cheapie...

Framed Picture company - anyone used them

cheers for the reply! Think I am going local as well... print quality is a bit of an unknown and want these to look as good as possible so am going for DSCL fine art print and a local framer and the whole thing should come out about the same price (give or take).

What do people use the custom settings banks for?

cheers... it seems for the type of photography I do then (all RAW, all continuous focussing etc.) their really would be no point...

What do people use the custom settings banks for?

I am trying to improve my efficiency and get the best out of my D700 and wondered what most people use the custom settings banks for??? I generally use one type of metering (matrix but I do have spot assigned to the custom function button in case of vastly different lighting in the scene), and...

    What's your weak point?

I would struggle to narrow it down to one!!! My major lacking areas are: Flash - as someone else already posted I have read absolutely everything there is to know about flash, understand all the technical concepts around it but every time I use it I hate the results. Tbh I am aiming for a 100%...

Any high-street shops do 5x7.5 prints

Hi all, Need some quite urgent prints doing from a wedding yesterday to get a quick album knocked up for their reception tomorrow... Will be getting better quality stuff done later on, they just wanted something to flip through... Does anyone know if any high-street shops or supermarkets...

    Prime Lens vs VR

Alternatively, and I really don't want to sound harsh about this, but get out and use it rather than shooting walls. Once in use the advantages listed above (DoF, Colour Rendition - a biggie for me, low-light ability, less arm ache) should be immediately obvious. If not perhaps your ability...

Additional kit (lenses) for a trip to Kenya?

yeah, completely agree and could have done with more reach on quite a few occasions however I personally feel that 200mm should be enough to capture 95% of shots the OP wanted. Ultimately (as with all photography) it depends how much you value that extra 5%.

Additional kit (lenses) for a trip to Kenya?

What utter rubbish! Kenya is a fantastic place to visit, why bother going if your going to stay inside your hotel?

Additional kit (lenses) for a trip to Kenya?

I went on Safari in Kenya and the longest zoom I had was 85mm but still got some decent shots, really depends on how close you want to get. Theres a gallery here and I believe all safari shots are at 85mm: http://www.flickr.com/photos/captain_hotdog/sets/72157624642816425/
